Some of you antivaxxer conspiracy theorists make Jenny McCarthy look sane.

Big pharma is primarily responsible for the opioid epidemic we have right now. How many people have died because of their greed? How many lives and families have been destroyed because of their greed? And yet you don't think for a minute that big pharma would hide or outright misrepresent the potential risks of the vaccine and boosters? You don't think that the agencies meant to "regulate" these companies only exist to serve as a gatekeeper to said industries? Collusion between big pharma and a corrupt and bloated government has done far more damage to this country than anti-vaxxers could ever dream of.

You do know the mRNA vaccines can be quickly and easily tweaked based on different variants, which is what they'll do, and that an antiviral treatment was going to happen at some point, yes?

So have the mRNA vaccines been tweaked for Delta and Omicron and are now available? Delta became a thing in May/June.

Just for clarification, whether needed or not, Ingeniero knows the proper acronym.

I hate the militants on both sides of the covid "debate" at this point. A pox on both your houses.

Either we have a deadly virus that is going to wipe out civilization as we know it or we are being lied to and coerced by our government to take a wholly unnecessary drug that can kill us.

I think being ambivalent about the issue is much worse than having strong feelings.

Why are you laughing at this?

Do you understand that a chemist can add a single carbon molecule on the end of a drug and have a “molecularly different drug” that does essentially the same thing?

Chinese chemist are constantly altering illegal fentanyl and ecstasy to create “molecularly different drugs” that have the exact same effect

I’m not saying OP is right I’m just saying you sound like an idiot

I completely understand your taking the latter position if you truly believe the former statement. I simply believe that it’s a false dichotomy which isn’t actually reflective of reality.

Yeah, you modify a functional group a little and you'll get a slightly different molecule that will probably act on a similar mechanism. Adderall and meth a good example.

I know what the two drugs in question look like, and they aren't even close. They would clearly act on different mechanisms and that's why I laughed.

Except adding a methyl group will meaningfully change the distribution of the drug. And the textbook mechanism of action from Ivermectin isn't similar to viral protease inhibitors.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure the Pfizer therapeutic is closer to the HIV treatment than Ivermectin.

I don’t really care either way. This virus is not naturally occurring and I won’t complain if we get a domestically sourced drug that actually works. I am made more hopeful about Pfizer’s new Covid treatment than I am about the vaccine.

It is done more often with hydroxide ions but this thread is about two specific compounds and I think it is fair to view comments as if they are discussing what is actually on the OP's plate. These drugs share no significant similarity and don't even share any base compounds. They are as different as shite and Shinola chemically even if you gloss over the fact the MOAs are also completely different.

Everyone here was curious with the initial post by Strannix if it was indeed Pfizer evergreening a "new" drug but as soon as we looked at the actual 2d renderings it was clear it was not an evergreening attempt.

As we should be! If this drug actually works then it’s ALL OVER! At least it should be!

Because it was claimed previously that the two drugs were similar.

If you take a moment to look into the structures involved, there is a hell lot more difference between the two than merely an errant methyl group.

Im not sure if there are any real similarities in functional group motifs in fact.
