Preface: I'm not accusing anyone of racism. I'm just trying to determine how long a trend has possibly taken place.

In most instances, I believe people just want what is best for their kids and dont even focus on race. Honestly, it should not matter. When I was growing up in the 90s to early 2000s, my school was relatively mixed. Maybe about 70:30 white to black. This was in Leesville by the way.

I never once felt that there was a racial problem in our town. But I realize that everyone has different experiences and that bigger cities will have issues other places wont.

I used to think the only places that were lily white were a) States in the midwest and northeast where Blacks are less than 10% of the population.
Or b) very small rural towns where the only inhabitants would be white.

it's always been that way when you live in a small town, and everyone knows everyone. The races all get along much better than in larger cities where a group is just lumped together good with the bad.

Students typically go to the schools in their district. There tends to be large segments of African Americans living in the same communities. Those kids go to the same schools.

I dont understand the question.

No white parents with means will send their kids to schools that are majority black.

That’s all i want. I don’t care what color the kids are that go to school with my kids as long as they’re not little shitheads that are distractions and have no business being at school. Kids with attitude problems and just a complete unwillingness to abide by school rules and expectations. Little bastard kids come in all colors.

Also, most schools are zoned for their neighborhood. A lot of black folks live in all black neighborhoods.

So how is that defacto segregation?

Pretty simple. Most people, especially in public schools, attend near their homes and people have chose to live with others like themselves for pretty much forever. Did you really not know this?

We had a small-ish group of black kids in my class. They self-segregated into their own group and never sat with anyone else at lunch. I always thought it was odd.

What's "defacto segregation"?

Is this like expensive restaurants where you don't see many black people?

Or ritzy neighborhoods where you see the same?

Private schools will always have the people that can afford them. As a matter of fact, they'll actually accept minority students who don't qualify simply for athletics, so black people actually have an advantage there.

Public schools anyone can go.

Not sure what the point is here.

Which is what destroyed BR public schools. They decided to send kids across town to balance out the quality of the schools and most of the middle class and up pulled their kids out and moved to the burbs or put them in private school.
