Talked to a woman today who has been to Disney with her kids twelve (12) times. Goes every year. I asked her why she never goes anywhere else, and she said they've been to Gulf Shores a couple of times. I was speechless.

I'm not a great parent, but come on. My kids have been to Disney all of twice. Quite a few beach trips, I'll admit. But they've seen the nation's capital. And NYC. And Chicago. Taking them to Colorado over this summer. What the hell is wrong with people.

Other than the handicap associated with having simple minded parents, no.

Its a vacation for people who are on the go. The beach is for people who..... aren't bored by having nothing to do?

I've been more than 12 times as a kid, but also went to 38 states and two countries as a kid as well.

When I have a kid they will have a passport with actual stamps from foreign countries in it by the time they are 6-7. My kid is gonna have the type of vacations I could have never thought of as a child. Of course they will get to go to Disney at least once.....but I'd rather them experience real foreign countries than a manufactured one.

I don't get it, but when I was a kid we only went on vacation to Florida and only once every 2 years or so, so I guess Disney is better than nothing

Sometimes you just have to force feed your kids a little history or culture or other broadening experiences. You tell them where you're going for vacation, and you do the necessary advance work to make sure they have fun. Disney is for parents who don't plan or have no imagination. Because let's face it..... it ain't exactly cheap.

We go every year. We go other places too, but we have a lot more fun at Disney. Playa Del Carmen and Cozumel were fun, for four days. Beach is fun for a day. Cabin in Gatlinburg was fine. You have to find a place where the chirrens have something to do, where you don't have the constant threat of them drowning. That's why when we plan our big trip every year, it's to Disney. Plus we just know everything will be okay. The employees will help you out, the customer service will be great, and there's always stuff to do. It's something you have to plan (thanks to the new fastpass system), but I don't see what the problem is. Haters gonna hate I guess.

I want to do the same but I don't want my kid to devalue foreign travel due to thinking it's common. Maybe a couple international trips but not too many

I've been 20+ times and I'm 25. My parents have been DVC members since 1991 when it began, so we always have points to use each year. It's just something my siblings and I grew up with and something we enjoy as a family. We travel to other places too (both DVC and non-DVC affiliated)...we don't only do Disney.

Disney is a polarizing topic for the OT.
Why are some adults obsessed with Disney?
