There is a difference between being an a-hole and being a scumbag.
Being an a-hole is fine. It is even respected by many; just look around this joint. The fine art of assholery has been practiced for centuries.
What you are referring to is a scumbag. Scumbags have no raising, no morals or ethics. They lack respect, of self and others.
I don't blame you for not understanding this. Our current world has blurred the line between a-hole and Scumbag. It all started when comedians started getting canceled for jokes and has gone downhill from there.
It is perfectly okay to be a practiced a-hole. It is not cool to be a scumbag.

With the way other people act it's really tough not to be an a-hole

To make it all the way through life without killing another human being is an accomplishment

It's impossible to not be an a-hole. That label is used for anyone with an opinion by anyone that has a different opinion.

No, it's not. You a-hole. Stop making excuses for yourself.

I tried to explain to my Pops once that it wasn't necessarily his message, but his execution.
He said that was bullshite and told me to suck it up.

Now you're getting it. Be careful though, you may just end up an a-hole yourself.

I try to be
TRUSTWORTHY. Tell the truth and keep promises. People can depend on you.
LOYAL. Show that you care about your family, friends, Scout leaders, school, and country.
HELPFUL. Volunteer to help others without expecting a reward.
FRIENDLY. Be a friend to everyone, even people who are very different from you.
COURTEOUS. Be polite to everyone and always use good manners.
KIND. Treat others as you want to be treated. Never harm or kill any living thing without good reason.
OBEDIENT. Follow the rules of your family, school, and pack. Obey the laws of your community and country.
CHEERFUL. Look for the bright side of life. Cheerfully do tasks that come your way. Try to help others be happy.
THRIFTY. Work to pay your own way. Try not to be wasteful. Use time, food, supplies, and natural resources wisely.
BRAVE. Face difficult situations even when you feel afraid. Do what you think is right despite what others might be doing or saying.
CLEAN. Keep your body and mind fit. Help keep your home and community clean.
REVERENT. Be reverent toward God. Be faithful in your religious duties. Respect the beliefs of others.

How hard is it to not be an a-hole
How long before pedo's are normalized, and hating them is considered a-hole behavior?
How long before you are considered evil for eating meat?

Meh, where I live (Covington), people are generally polite and well intentioned. I can only think of one person that seemed to want stuff to be burned down.

Oh, look. The superior "moderate above the fray" has entered the discussion. There is no way any logical or decent person has gained any respect at all for any of the radical, progressive left.

seems like it takes more effort to be an a-hole. but, some folks seem to enjoy the effort.
