How hard is it to not be an a-hole

Because people sure do make it look real hard.
It’s entirely possible to live a calm life where you treat everyone with dignity (whether they deserve it or not) and still live within your world view.
Instead, we have a bunch of adult children running around like headless chickens trying to sqwak and bring everyone down to their level of maturity. And they have by and large succeeded. It’s tiresome.

I live by he golden rule and the general assumption that I should be ethical.
The 10 core values needed to be ethical are the following:
Honesty
Integrity
Promise keeping
Fidelity
Fairness
Caring for others
Respect for others
Responsible citizenship
Pursuit of excellence
Accountability
I haven't seen Americans offer many of these ten core values for quite some time. Made worse by our media dividing people into two distinct groups and people eating it up like it's candy
ETA: it needs to go back to the days where it was ok to have a difference of opinion from people.

It's the result of the pampered, sense of entitlement, participation trophy, coddled generation growing older. They weren't spanked as a kid when throwing temper tantrums and always got what they wanted.

life is too broad to discuss in such a simple context. 99% have to be aholes at least half the time. if you are referencing the big picture "protest", then that is not a top of aholes. that's a topic of a class of people trying to destroy our nation and capitalism. it is an attempt at a communist revolution.

The biggest assholes I encounter on a day to day basis are all boomers. Pretty sure boomers were spanked as kids.

Yeah, most people aren’t very Christian (including many people who claim to be).
I think it’s very interesting that for millennia, our religions have been based around not giving into desires and now not indulging is a bad thing.
I like to read about Buddhist principles and stoic principles about living an unemotional life because I find them very comforting.

I think most persons are great. On an individual level, the overwhelming majority of folks want to do the right thing.
But people as a group are selfish, ignorant, emotional and petty.
It’s always been that way and probably always will.
What changes is the dominant culture which influences the group. That’s the problem right now
