I’m not talking about becoming a cop...something other than just writing tickets and whatnot. I’m wondering how the detectives, forensic investigators, etc get jobs.

Does it all start with becoming a cop?

It's pretty easy in states like Louisiana. If you go to more highly educated and populated state, it's a lot harder. What will get most people rejected is previous drug use and/or convictions.

All cops start on patrol then move up. Nobody starts as a detective.

Depends on the job. When I was an undergrad I got a glorious job as a security guard at a sorority house. The pay was minimum wage but it was like being a fox guarding the henhouse.

Good point. LSP is by far the hardest agency to get a job offer from.

detectives,

Typically you prove yourself in patrol or other LEO division and then after years you can apply.

forensic investigators

Often times they aren't commissioned officers....typically you have to have some kind of science degree.

They don’t mandate it, but unless you have experience or know someone(who can let you do dispatch instead of jail), you can bet your arse you will do a few years in jail:

Better pay. Better equipment. Many of them only work interstates, which is way easier than working domestics and trashy shite all day. They also only hire the best candidates (usually), so you don't have to worry about Donut Donnie rolling in for backup on a foot chase.

Not true.

You just have to qualify and do well on your interview.

Having experience in law enforcement or military is more important.

Criteria. You have to have a college associates, military, or law enforcement experience.

They have hundred of applicants from all over because the job is easy, pays well, and opportunities are much better than local. If you are white you need to know someone or have well over required.
