This is a dumb thread. There’s like one happening street in downtown Vicksburg.

It all goes back to the Civil War. The Battle of Baton Rouge led to the destruction of the city, and there are very few nice-looking, old-time buildings remaining to frolic in. The Battle of Vicksburg, on the other hand, was more of a "siege" than a "battle," with lots of action going on outside of the city.

Downtown Vicksburg? Last time I went there, which was within the last 10 years, it seemed like half the buildings were boarded up and abandoned.

There’s like a small area of one or two blocks where it’s nice and the rest is a shithole
It’s pretty common in the larger delta towns. Usually a block or two with a couple nice restaurants and shops maybe an upscale hotel and the rest of downtown is abandoned and run down. It’s basically an effort from locals to preserve a small part of what the towns once were
Cleveland is the only one with an actual thriving downtown

Just stayed at the Cotton House last week. Great hotel. Unfortunately DSU has fallen on hard times and Cleveland is starting to decline. A federal judge destroying Cleveland's public school system certainly hasn't helped.

Vicksburg is the capital of unrealized potential…I lived downtown for a year or so and it absolutely sucked.

They must be shooting a movie there right now….. don’t worry, next month it will be back to looking like a city from the 70’s South

Remember that time when Vicksburg built their downtown on the banks of the Mississippi then an oxbow formed and the river moved a half mile away leaving downtown overlooking a massive mud filled flood plain?
That was cool.
That was cool.

We’ve hunted there for 11 years. You are right, some great restaurants like Rusty’s Riverfront grill and 10 south rooftop. They fix downtown up beautifully for Christmas and other occasions.
We have a historic home on Cherry street a few blocks from the river. I loved everything about it and never had an issue for 11 years…..until this year, 2 thugs busted my windows out at the end of January when I had everything packed up to go home after hunting season. They got in the gate, we have cameras, but they had mask on. They busted my windows, and stole guns I had locked in gun cases to bring home, tool sets, gift cards, and anything they could carry. I found out the names of the thief’s…”Slow mouth” or Terrance and I forget the others. I reported to the police, but when they picked them up a week after the robbery they already dumped everything. They busted into several other vehicles that night as well.

lol worst post ever. Place is a shithole. Just another ghetto town on the river full of ghetto trash, White thrash and old school southerners that think the south can rise again. A few good restaurants and some damn good huntin. Other than that it’s just a dump. The Military park was legit until funding got low. It wishes it was Natchez but glad it’s not Greenville. No hope.

Any of you MS peeps know about a town called Water Valley?
Reading about it online I get the idea some yuppies are trying to turn it into some sort of Oxford minus the college. Or did I hallucinate all that?
