I have some friends that just bought a house over there and they say it like "career" whereas I always thought it was pronounced "carry air."

Who is right? Any locals ot there to help?

Thanks in advance.

The locals are wrong, but that's how they pronounce it.

Same way KilN becomes da kil, I guess.

You're correct, but I've never been there.

Like carry but a long e then long a sound is how we pronounce that but it may have been because I heard it as a last name not a town in the land mass

I've always heard it like "care rear," but my Louisiana self wants to call it kah-re-air. Idk.

Ca rear (though I can’t honestly say I’ve ever heard anyone speak of the place)...drove right by there bringing my son to soccer this weekend, had no idea there was anything off 59 right there. Why on earth they move there?
