"the spillway" is usually what I tell people when I'm describing the location of traffic I'm stuck in

And on another note- is there anything worse than someone who clearly isn't from LA falling all over themselves emphatically trying to stress the French pronunciations of all things Louisiana??

This isn't really odd. People say it both ways. Port Fourchon is the correct way. At least that is what the water tower says.

There may be different ways to say things but for everything there’s the one way everyone who knows what they’re talking about says it.
