I think they have it worse than country folks who can buy lots per trip.

Imagine having kids that need diapers, formula, and other heavy or bulky items, and having to schlep that stuff down a Manhattan street and through a residential building. Delivery services have to be a godsend for them.

They already had grocery delivery when i lived there in 2000. It was called Fresh Direct or something like that.

I see people with ice chest in their SUVs and trucks. Guess that’s how they keep it cold on the way home. But honestly, how many people are living in an area where they don’t pass a grocery at least once a week?

Live in Ruston, but usually drive 32 miles to Monroe EOW, to shop at Sam's for myself and my 80+ year old parents. We take a couple of different sized ice chests with blue ice. My list varies, and sometimes doctor's appointments cause us to skip a week. When we skip a week, we'll buy stuff at the grocery store, but it's usually just buying fresh fruit, a loaf of bread, or a carton of milk.

We regularly order a bunch of toiletries, vitamins, gardening supplies, etc. from Sam's, Walmart or Amazon and have it delivered.

It's hard to drive 45 minutes without driving by a Dollar General. Unless of course you live in a a state like Wyoming. There you don't even leave town without a full tank of gas. Buy in bulk, store in freezers, pantry, canning, and growing your own food are some ways. Ever had fresh country eggs? slaughtered your own corn-fed hog? Eaten venison taken while hunting? Eaten farm raised freshly slaughtered beef? Grown your own tomatoes, green beans, peas, butter beans, or corn? It's called farming and ranching.

Its biggest advantage to me is that we get exactly what we're in the mood for every day. We've made lists in the past, and sometimes you're just not in the mood for what you thought you would be, a week before, when you made the meal plan

This 100%. When I'm sticking to a stricter diet, I will plan ahead, but otherwise it was causing too much food waste because we wouldn't want what we had planned anymore.

The grocery store is exactly 1 mile away and shares a parking lot with my regular happy hour spot anyway, so we go pretty much daily.

Buy meat and veggies from walmart, & buy in bulk. Supplement anything else you run out of from DG.

It's worth it!

Most of these small communities have small local grocery stores where most basics can be gotten and drive into nearest town once every week or so for everything* else

I live 30 minutes from a grocery store. I just swing by on my way home from work and pick up groceries every 7-10 days.

Everything else we buy online or my wife goes shopping during the day.

It really isnt that difficult.

We go to the store when we need to? What kind of question is this?

I'm not a fan either. I'll spend $300-400 per trip when I go. My wife grabs perishables like milk, eggs lettuce, fruit about once per week at Rouses when she's already there for lunch.

I buy almond milk, lots of eggs, and then eat apples and cabbage the second week. I HATE going to the store.

We probably have 15 grocery stores within 5 miles of us and we don't go once a week. We usually just go buy 2-3 weeks of food at a time.

I assume you don't eat many fresh fruits/veggies and freeze all your meats. While a lot of people only go to the grocery store that rarely most make stops at some sort of store for milk etc that are perishable.

To the OP. The rare people that do live 45 minutes or more from any food stores tend to take a morning or afternoon to go to "town" once a week or so.

Hell necos was a gas station with a good meat market when I was growing up. Oh and we could get beer underage. It’s wild to see a grocery store on that side of the river now.

To be honest the very few people I know who live in places like this just spend their days traveling to "town" to run errands.

They don't want to be close to neighbors, but then they spend probably 2-4 hours per day driving all over creation just to run basic errands. To each their own I guess

I could retire in a cabin in the mountains and go to town once a week for supplies. My wife might not be a fan though. She likes takeout and being 5 minutes from everything.
