I’m getting ready to go to grad school and I have to take the GRE. I’m just wondering how difficult it is.

For a person of average intelligence, it's tough but doable. For a Bama fan... maybe the fry station's more your speed.

I didn't think it was too difficult. The LSAT was a million times harder.

Recommend getting a test prep book from a guy that does test prep classes at Georgia St, DrTestPrep.

Math is easy. Verbal is hard.

I didn’t find it to be too incredibly difficult but it doesn’t hurt to pick up a GRE vocabulary study packet.

My degree is in Mechanical Engineering but I’m trying to get an MA in Global Business Management. I’m an Officer in the Air Force and just need a Master’s.

It's just a standardized test ratcheted up. Get a study book. I should have studied much more for it than I did. I was a social science major and hadn't taken a math course since early my sophomore year. I also got hit with a raging shite like an hour into the test and had to hold it until break. If it didn't cost a few hundred bucks I would have loved to taken it again.

Get the MA in Organizational Management. It’s like an MBA but for government workers. Replaces all the finance and accounting stuff with soft sciences like conflict resolution and HR stuff. Was pretty useful actually except every other manager I knew that took it quickly disregarded the sound practices we were taught and continued acting like a government employee. Which is why I left the government.

You will probably ace the math portion. It isn't that much more advanced than the SAT or the ACT. If I were you, I'd focus on studying for the verbal section, which is substantially more difficult than the SAT or ACT.

Granted, I took the GRE in 2007(ish), and it was overhauled in 2011. So take what I'm saying with a grain of salt.

I was out of school for 25 years when I took it and I didn’t find it too difficult.

But I spent a good amount of time reviewing a lot of math, practicing the verbal section, and... pro tip... practice the writing portion. 20 minutes per essay goes by fast. You need to practice beforehand. I got a fantastic score on writing simply by taking it seriously and preparing for it.

It’s tough but you can study for it. Give yourself time to prepare and don’t cram.

I scored in the 98th percentile for verbal and 85th for quantitative. I thought the quant practice books and study materials were woefully inadequate for the actual test. That 85th percentile is due to some lucky guesses.

Edit - scores based on test in 2017.
