re: How difficult is the GRE?

Not a problem man. I took it two years ago and I’ll echo what everyone else said since going back and seeing you’re a mechanical engineer major. Focus on the vocab. That’s where I struggled the most. I don’t remember my exact scores for each section but the math isn’t much more difficult then calc 1 material. Maybe a touch of calc 2 but not much. Vocab was a pita just because I’m not much of an English person and there were some tricky words thrown in that my south Louisiana upbringing couldn’t handle.

It's not that bad. I took it ate age 40 and did well enough to get accepted into a couple of masters programs. I reviewed a prep book for about a week to get some ideas then took it.

Take it through UA College of Continuing Studies

GRE is a breeze. Or at least it was for me 20 years ago. I was an English graduate, but I had started in mechanical engineering, so I had the math (calculus) already nailed down. Glanced through a review book at Barnes & Noble the night before. Took it next day and did great.

Took the LSAT a couple of years later. That one took a little bit of prep--think I took off work early the day before and used that time to bone up on LSAT prep. Probably 4 hours of actual "review."

Somewhere between my devilish good looks, my prior academic record, and that hard-earned LSAT score, the LSU Law School's admission office agreed to take my money.

I didn’t think the essay counted towards your score. Or at least, if you bombed it hurt you, but getting a 5 (or whatever perfect is) didn’t advance you.
