I recently got laid off and spent the last three weeks searching the r8ght job. I never left the house except for the actual interview. I used several web based job search sites and had several interviews until I accepted the job that was right for me.

Indeed was a good site and I also used the Alabama.gov site that helps folks on unemployment find work. There are a lot of services I didn't care for. I would see the job posting and skip the service and go straight to the company's website to apply. I finally found one that met my salary needs last week. The internet has made job searches easy and without going in person to all of those places like I did fresh out of scho

Oh I hate to hear that but yeah for a new job.

So how are you post-covid and are you still smoke free?? How's your wife??

After layoff, I got three or four commitments from old customers and opened my own office. I was lucky, not much competition.

My friend who works for the company in Seattle called me to tell me there was a role open in Louisiana. I applied, interviewed, and got the offer.

I was setting up a unique "booth" at an industry trade event. I had three unique and separated communication systems, plus a video wall to set up. My engineer's flight was cancelled. Everything came in not working.

I set the entire system up and created, on the fly, a way for all three systems to communicate together and give me full control from a single mouse/keyboard/monitor. Nobody in my company had ever attempted it previously and I pulled it off. I had a mishmash of servers, workstations and VMS security systems. The guy with the booth next to me watched me pull this together and program it to work.

Six months later, out of the blue, he called me up and offered me a position. We're now peers and my role is international and highly technical in defense, aeronautics and space systems. I would probably still be with the other company, earning half or less what I earn now.

I was a customer of a theirs and they specifically wanted somebody with experience using their product so they trolled their customer base.

The job interview itself was a lot of insanity that involved a failed personality test, getting into an argument with my potential new boss, a road trip and me thinking I had been abandoned in the Rio Grande Valley for a short period of time, and the guy who “abandoned” me trying to convince me to take the job just so I didn’t rat him out.

This sounds like a story. Maybe not quite as good as that baw that went deep sea fishing on his job interview

I literally called the owner and asked for the job. After about 20 minutes talking to him, I had the contract in my email.

For me, it has always been this.

I enjoy being out socially and meeting/chatting with strangers. Hell, I go out for a glass or two of wine by myself fairly frequently. It has paid me back tenfold.

Never understood how some of my single friends whine about not being able to meet anyone. Meeting people is the easiest thing in the world to me.

Long story short, a bacterium evolved in to a multicelluar organism which then, over the course of billions of years, brought us to the present where my genetic similarity to my father and grandfather gave me extremely preferential treatment in the hiring process at the family business.

Other jobs in my previous career were by knowing people at those companies and getting the inside track.
