But yes revenge is why Hitler chose the Compiègne Wagon as the site where France would sign the June 22, 1940 Armistice. It was the site of Germany's biggest humiliation after World War 1.

How many countries in this liberal, internationally connected age of 2015 still want to wipe Israel off the face of the map? Over land.
The truth is, as usual, probably somewhere in between.
Did Hitler paint a false picture and exaggerate Jewish effect on society to manufacture anti-Semitic attitudes? Sure.
But Germany was in a war of survival and they believed the Jews were a threat to that. Throwing around the word scapegoat is PC bullshite. This notion that the Jews went from the most agreeable, go with the flow people in the world who were the pinnacle of co-existing with other nations to the biggest shite starters in the world for the last half century is absolutely ridiculous.
Jews are an incredibly smart and capable people. A bunch of Jews ended up being instrumental in creating the atomic bomb. Genocide is obviously tremendously horrible and we know its not the answer. But what you would have suggested? Your people's land is being taken away and you have a historically belligerent France, England trying to stop any threats to their old world dominance, as well as a re-arming Soviet Union with a dangerous, violence and conquering based ideology surrounding you. Add in the US involving itself in European affairs.
Jews and other threats to the Reich weren't killed for sadistic pleasure or revenge. And the Jews were very much a threat to Socialist Germany as well as the war effort. Holocaust was one of the horrors of civilized history but revisionist history on the circumstances stifles understanding of the human element of "how did Hitler convince..."
Easy for us to sit back and condemn the way a country dealt with a threat when we are bordered by the 2 biggest oceans in the world and 2 relatively prideless nations who have never had the slightest ambition to be a world power.

Hitler appealed to tribal instincts. Jews were not part of his tribe, and he demonized them. His tribe bought the message.
You can see it repeating itself today on both a large and small scale. Minority groups in the United States cluster together and take pride in their uniqueness, they emphasize their differences while demanding they not be treated differently despite the differences they celebrate. And of course the obvious are Muslims. They are part of a tribe that doesn't even bother to hide their intent to kill non-members of the tribe.

There are calls to redistribute wealth and take what belongs to someone else and give it to certain constituents. The Democratic Party is becoming the non-white party very quickly.....but the comparison to pre WW2 Germany is not quite valid.

Are you two really trying to compare Bush going to war with Hitler? Really? Every president who went to war then can be compared to Hitler. Bush doesn't even come close to Hitler.
Hitler hated Jews because of things in his past speculation ranges from his ouster from art school, Jewish doctor not saving his mother, to a half Jewish father. But he hated them for some reason and saw them as a good starting point to get the German people on his side.
Germany was devastated after WWI and would believe any charismatic leader who promised them something better. They were a poor and broken people and he told them they were a superior race of humans who would rule the world for a 1000 years. once elected he gave them jobs, money, and a prosperous Country and a shinny bad guy in the dirty Jews. He had an awesome propaganda machine that sold everybody on it all. Once their lives were good and they bought into it, it wasn't hard to get them on board with crazier ideas or to turn a blind eye to atrocities.

Yes by the time Stalingrad was over it was the beginning of the end for Germany. But had they somehow pulled that off, make no mistake they would have came here next.
Really, the war would have been a lot different if hilter didn't try to be the military commander. Part of what made Stalin so strong a leader is that he understood what he didn't understand and had good people around him. Stalin knew he wasn't a military commander and left the commanding to the commanders. Hitler didn't. The invasion of Russia, the entire strategy of the war on the German front was Hilter.
The war would have been much, much different had Hitler left Russia alone and concentrated on Europe. I think the allies would have still won.. eventually. But would have cost a lot more american lives and i think we would have used the bomb on Germany before we did in Hiroshima

Germans had been humiliated after WWI in many different ways and the jews were Hitler's target for the blame. After he came into power he was able to have all kinds of propaganda made to brainwash the German people.
Read "Ordinary Men". It will take you into the minds of the people that were ordered to take out these orders. The vast majority of German soldiers didn't want to do it at first but then they became numb to it. It basically argues that the German people weren't some incredible monsters. That it could happen anywhere in this world if the right people come into power.
