It even has the factory protective plastic covers over its two-tone cloth seats, and it still retains the protective plastic over the instrument cluster.

quote:

GNX is short for Grand National Experimental and was developed in conjunction with ASC McLaren. The regular Buick Grand National was already a quick car with its turbocharged 3.8-liter V6, and the plan was to make the GNX the quickest production sedan at the time. 547 Buick Grand Nationals were given an interior trim package and then sent to McLaren where they were given a performance transformation.

The GNX-branded center caps are included with the sale and have never been fitted on the car. The only things that have been replaced on the car are the battery and relay switch, but both of the original items are included in sale.

All of this speed and blackness didn't come cheap when it was new, and it still doesn't. The GNX's substantial $29,000+ price tag in 1987 had something to do with how few were sold. Not surprisingly, the entry price to GNX ownership has increased substantially since then.

That's amazing!

Currently at $101,000 with just 4 days left.

I think it will easily go for more than twice the current bid.

Honestly it is worse for the mechanicals of a car for it to sit for decades instead of being driven occasionally. I bet it would need work before being driven much now.

I don't know that it would need that much. Maybe a little lubrication, but it was kept in a temperature and humidity controlled room, so there shouldn't be any dry rot on tires, belts, or hoses, etc.

Holy shite. If I had $100K to blow on a car, I’d buy that right now. Love that car.

I'd like to think the dealership started it periodically to get rotating parts covered in oil and grease, circulate fluids, etc. and they probably would've had to drive it outside every now and then for a wash and wax. Surely, they didn't do that in the middle of a showroom.

Assuming the car came from the factory with 5 miles on it, and you drove it 200 feet to service it and get it back into the showroom every 3 months, it would take 20 years to get to 8 miles. If the car had 2 miles on it from the factory, we're talking 40 years to rack up 8 miles a couple hundred feet at a time.

Reminds me of the Monte Carlo from that same era. Uncle had one and I wanted it so bad.

It’s cool but I’d rather one that can actually be driven. Put miles on that and it ruins the value. Also all of the rubber parts probably needs to be replaced if you want to drive it.

My brother use to have that car, got two tickets in it. Did not realize how fast it was and was doing 80 before I realized it.
