Counting backwards in roughly 20 year increments, it's hard to find a time the country has ever gone more than 25 years without dramatic change. I'd consider Covid one of those times. 20 years before that you had 9/11. 10 before that was the end of the Cold War. 20 years before that was the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement. 25 years before that was WWII and the beginning of the nuclear age. The Great Depression before that, and on and on.
Going 20 years without dramatic change is the exception, not the rule.

It almost happened last night courtesy of the left.
If they had killed the presumptive president you would have woke up in a different country today. It would be over.

Didn’t that happen after Katrina?

Authoritarianism is the near-term danger, not collapse.
Agreed.
Ben Hunt posted an old article of his on X this morning/yesterday, and I liked the framework he put together about our political tension.
There's a common knowledge everyone into politics has, and that is the Other Party is a direct threat to the wellbeing of America and american democracy.
What wouldnt you be willing to do to stop Hitler in 1932 or Lenin in 1917?
To the point I worry too many would agree to some authoritarian shite to stop the feared authoritarian intentions of the otherside.

Very close. One election away

Realistically we are less than 20 years away from a forced split.

It’ll happen when they come for our guns. Anybody’s guess as to when that’ll be. Election results will dictate timeline.

I can think of several times which were worse.

Brother, even during the fall of Rome, wide segments of the population did not see 'anarchy.' Some of you people desperately need to read.

I see the fear mongering you consume has made you lose rationality and you're full on emotional thinker.
You should examine why you've let yourself get to this point and make some changes.

Will never happen.
That will result in a Civil war and the entire global economy will crumble if that happens.
It just doesn't make any sense how you would even go about peacefully splitting up the #1 country on Earth.
We got into this yesterday about Louisiana specifically.

Outside of the extremist on the left and right.
The majority of people do not get sucked into these crazy debates and are just trying to live their lives.
I think social media provides the ability for people like the OP to reinforce his thoughts that everything is crumbling. When in reality that is still such a small percentage of people in this country that share those viewpoints.

I wish idiots like you would just go away and stop fear-mongering.

This is absolutely the correct take. Idk how anyone can think otherwise. There are just so many fundamental differences between both sides. It might take longer than 20 years, though

The primary split is Rural v. everywhere else.
Just imagine the geographical issues with a "split" where metro areas and suburbs split into nations. Are we going old school to city-states?

I just don’t know how we ever go back to more moderate based political parties. Because of social media, the radicals on both sides, it just doesn’t lend itself to proper discussion and thinking. And I think even after Trump/Biden, you’ll continue to see the extremes and boundaries being pushed in each new election
I hope I’m wrong. But it seems like both sides wish to cause further and further divide between the American people

People stop being emotional idiots, for starters.
Splitting the US up won't solve that problem. You'll just see new in/out groups.
If you want a recent example, look at all the debasing of themselves Trump supporters/MAGA did with DeSantis during the primaries.
