Guy sitting across from me shoveling his food in with method on the left.

It looks so awkward and difficult.

It’s a homeless shelter. Don’t be so mean.

Maybe he has really bad arthritis and can’t hold it the traditional way. You insensitive prick.

Worked with a guy that ate like that. I couldn't be in his presence when he was shoveling food into his gullet

A proper gentleman holds his fork in his left hand with tines down. Knife in right. As the English do.

One is for precision and appearance. The other is for speed and volume.

I'll let you decide which is which and when to use each method.

My west coast soon to be ex-brother in law eats like that. It's kind of funny to watch because he dresses like a hobo, eats like a caveman, but thinks he's better and smarter than everyone because he works for IT start ups (that always fail miserably)

My aunt eats like the one on the left, but it's because she has horrific arthritis.

That's why they lost the war. Too much worrying over trivial shite. This is a fight, not finishing school.

Anyone who uses the method on the left also pulls their paints down all the way at urinals.

I have psoritic arthritis and up until I started Taltz, you'd think I was John F Kennedy with how bad my back could get twice a month or so. I'd literally crawl into the shower and stretch in there with the hot water going for about an hour.

Not just the English: Continental Style

I find myself alternating between this and "proper" American style, depending upon what I'm eating.

Is that okay etiquette-wise, or do I need to pick one or the other and stick with it?

I grew up with a dude who ate like that. His mom and dad both grew up pretty dirt poor but became pretty successful as adults. My buddy and his dad both ate like that and it always cracked me up.

I guess no one ever taught them any different.

I've known two highly intelligent guys who do this. One is an engineer, the other a project manager. It astounds me that no one ever taught them how to hold a fork like an adult.

I've even more astounded that they never noticed that they are different than everyone else at the table.

I'm sure they have noticed and more than likely have run the numbers and determined that it ain't broke and don't need fixing.
