I dropped the "Ole lady" off at 8 am this morning to get and out of state license changed to Texas.

Four hours and forty minutes later she's still not close to being called up.

She's starving and bitching up a storm by text.

You gotta take the Black Friday approach. Camp out the night before. I am dreading going to the one up here. At least in Baton Rouge they had the express ones.

And some people want the government to take over our healthcare.

Frightening, when you think about it.

We have a few of these. It's well worth the couple extra bucks. I think the longest I've waited is maybe 20-30 minutes.

Express DMV’s, run by private for profit entities, are the ultimate argument for small government. Take a purely governmental job, issuing drivers licenses, and the state cannot run it no matter how hard they try. Allow a private entity to perform the same function for a fee and they get it right.

Yet people want this same government to run our most important entity. Healthcare.

go to a private place

Can you do that when changing state residence?
I have gone private here in Louisiana. But, when I first moved back had to go to government place as new residents were required to.

It's a problem nationwide. The Real ID deadline is October and 2/3 of license holders have yet to update their license/ID. It will only get worse in the coming months.

Go get the old lady and head to a nearby small community out of the city. It's what I do for my needs and did for Mom when we moved her to N. La. area.

No line at all in small outlying towns vs huge room full of stinky nasty folks all in a bad mood in the city. Well worth, the gas, the drive time, etc. to get the Hell outta Dodge.

I got mine updated the day before the DMV closed for Christmas. Right before that, I had to swing by the Clerk of Court's office to get a document. I was in and out of both in about 90 minutes.

Go to government offices the day before big family holidays when everybody else who has families that love them are with them. Place is a ghost town!

Online check-in for the day opens at 7:00am on the dot. Or just go to the DMV office an hour early and stand in line.

Arriving when the doors open was a bad move.
