I mean he only traded with Iranian terrorist, violated federal law, fomented civil war in another country, tried to create an illegal army outside the purview of Congress, and allowed his underlings to obstruct justice by attempting to destroy evidence.

How could that hurt your legacy?

It wouldn't have made the news if the President was a Democrat. That's all you need to know about it.

For good reason, too. Reagan actually did good for this country.

Reagan told the American people he authorized the arms for hostages with Iran.

He denied knowledge of the Contra connection from the profits from Iran.

No evidence could be traced to him.

Black eye? Hardly, most Americans approved of supporting the Contras. His VP Bush the elder won 40 states and 426 EVs! His campaign was basically promising 4 more years of Reagan.

Obama won 28 and 365 his first time and 26 with 332 his second.

It was a huge media fiasco that dragged on forever. The Leftist media and the Democrat congress were certain they had another Watergate scandal to take down the most popular Republican president in history. Some were even trying to call it "Iran-Contragate."

Historically, it was kind of a blip on Reagan's reputation. But at the time, the media frenzy was at a fever pitch.

You left out the cocaine imports by CIA into Los Angeles along with coaching the buyers into creating Crack instead of the then popular Freebase. CIA was really the impetus for the cocaine and specifically Crack Epidemic of 80's and early 90's.

It was probably Bush all along that did all this stuff. H.W. was the Head of CIA before VP afterall and this was all CIA black ops stuff.
