The Iran Contra scandal pretty much closed out Reagan as a lame duck.
He lied and lied and lied. He instituted the whole thing but was able to deflect blame and lie and about what he knew. His White House refused to turn over documents and unlike during Watergate the courts let that slide.
An arms control act placing sales of weapons to Iran off limits was the main statue violated. That is a serious felony. Reagan was popular so he skated. This was a very low point for our country. It set the tone of lawlessness by our government that is in full flower today.
This is a video from the VHS tape that I made in 1986, transferred to DVD and uploaded to Youtube.
Reagan was caught in a bunch of lies. He was one of our worst presidents.

I was just a wee lad when this went on but I do remember it. It seemed Reagan had lost a little mental capacity when the shite hit the fan. Also, I had the thought that things were going on without Reagan 's knowledge. Tricky Dick Cheney probably had more knowledge if it than Reagan.

What about the deinstitutionalization of America, making hospitals private and not public any longer, and the passing of the COBRA healthcare mandate which was not funded. That started the healthcare debacle in our country.
