How Bad of a Black Eye was Iran-Contra to Reagan?

I was born in 1993, don't know a whole lot about it, I know Oliver North ended up taking the fall for the thing, or at least that's my understanding. But like I said, don't know too much about it. My dad said it was probably the only lasting black eye on Reagan's administration. That accurate?

Maybe, but I don't think it was a black eye. More like a shin bruise.

Nothing could give Regan a black eye. It was a drop in the bucket compared to Obama's fast and furious fiasco..

Wouldn't this fall under a History Board topic?

It would have been a mortal wound to most other administrations, maybe even an impeachable offense. But he was just so damn likeable. Still, it was a major distraction and showed that the Reagan administration was just as duplicitous as any others.

I knew a man who was involved in the drug trafficking part of that.

Imo his foolhardy ramping up of the WoD was the only lasting black eye

Like you said, Oliver North took the fall. I don't remember it affecting Reagan's popularity much, if at all.

It was a hiccup, and Ollie took the fall... intentions were good, but definitely crossed a line. NOTHING as horrible as Obama scandals. In the end, anybody who is a true American rests easy with the knowledge that President Ronaldus Maximus is one of the GOAT Presidents.

More of a black eye and a kick to the nuts for the Sandinistas.
Scumbag communists.

The Sandinista National Liberation Front (Spanish: Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional, FSLN
National Liberation Front has a Southeast Asia, late '60s vibe.

Not much, Olie fell on the sword

Free hostages and fighting commies at the same time. I never saw what the problem was.

Exactly! Without Iran/Contra, we never meet Fawn Hall on the evening news. I think it was worth it.
