Believe it or not, some people make more money than you.

Don’t bet on it. I just went on the website and built a pilot - $60,450.
You picked the top trim and added on every additional option to get to that number.
I just bought one pretty loaded out with AWD and it was less than 50k.

I'm happy to hear this story.
It's less about servicing the debt, and more about buying an expensive vehicle, regardless of interest rate, is a really bad use of capital to me.
Sometimes you have to do it, and I just did it, but I did it as pain free and sensible as I could in buying a reasonably affordable and very comfortable van that we will drive for 10+ years.

First thing he did was buy an F250 and did the stupid lift kid/big wheels, etc. Told my bud he was going to be bailing out his kid soon, told me he told his son he was on his own after he purchased that. Fresh out of college and he's already living paycheck to paycheck before he even has to start paying loan notes.
A lot of people are trying to look like they are doing well.
Social media clout means everything to GenZ.

Karen needs her big SUV to keep up with the other Karens at Tiffany's dance class and will hold out on the marital goodies until Kevin goes and makes a deal that he then goes and brags to his friends about at BBQ. s .....even though Kevin got his head knocked off and then realizes that 0% APR.....really ain't that great when he's paying 1100 a month on a depreciating asset.....or he's financing it via his HELOC on a 15 year term .

I bought a 97K car earlier this year and paid cash. I did so because I wanted it and could afford it.

We had a 20 Tahoe that was paid for and traded it for $0 on a 22 suburban z71 (Tahoe had the touchscreens in the back).
22 suburban - $0 note
20 ram - $0 note
I realize we are the exception not the rule, most people we, know just have a car payment in perpetuity.

I'm not an idiot. The wife is getting a used Lexus or a new toyota.
New Toyota reviews say it’s the smartest vehicle someone can buy.

Now go look at a bass boat. Pre-2020, you could easily find a used boat for under $20k and a new boat in the $60k range. Not anymore. I told my wife that I might not ever get back into tournaments with trucks and boats both approaching $200k total.

My oldest son and his wife tried to get me to loan them money for a down payment last year so that they could get a "safe SUV" for the baby they were expecting.
After prying it out of him, I discovered that they wanted to go way upside down on one of those giant Infinity SUVs.
I said hell no, but I would buy them a used Sequoia outright
Sounds like you raised an ungrateful moron

I have to buy my wife a new vehicle in the next few months. It is crazy how expensive they are.

Just bought a used 2023 Tahoe fully loaded with 29K miles for 53. Brand new it would have been 70

Look at the Toyota Grand Highlander if you need some extra room

I’m looking at SxSs right now and Polaris has one for $50k.
Obviously that’s not what I’m looking to buy but it’s not just car prices that are getting well out of hand.
A buddy in port allen bought one. And hit a deer in the first or second week he had it.

Jesus. I couldn't imagine. 10 years ago when I was making 40k a year I was trying to figure out how to afford a Camry and still save money.
When I was a fitter I knew a 20 year old welder. He was still living with his parents and was making around $34 an hour. He couldn't afford to get his own place because he'd bought a King Ranch F250, a new boat, fourwheeler, and was paying around 3k for a hunting lease. It blew my mind then that somebody would take on that much debt. Thinking back on it it's not much different than somebody sinking themselves in student debt for a damn liberal arts degree.

That’s why I bought a used Explorer instead of an Expedition. Not spending
$80k on a new vehicle. Can’t make myself do that.

I went to 3 dealerships, and they were absolutely miserable to work with. Had online listings at ~61k, and somehow got OTD at ~74k+ because of all I forfeit using their in house financing rate. One of them offered me their demo for 72k OTD.
Had a similar experience looking for an Explorer. They had the 2023 Trail edition (or whatever they call it), and other higher trim models available. They had one XLT available and it was being used as the fleet managers comp vehicle. (Which they finally told us after 20-30 minutes sitting in the sales office.)
Frick Ford.

I was pricing a new truck. Holy shite I’ll just stick with my 5 yr old used truck.
No way I’m financing for 6 or 7 years.
When I do get another truck/suv it will be for 60 months and no more that .9% financing if any financing at all and I’ll put down 20% to avoid GAP insurance.

I have zero debt (that’s not a brag - quite the opposite actually)
