Houston-area officials are “getting close” to reimposing stay-at-home orders and are prepared to reopen a Covid-19 hospital established but never used at a football stadium as virus cases expand in the fourth-largest U.S. city.

The announcement by Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on Thursday came a day after the Lone Star state recorded its highest one-day tally of new cases since the pandemic emerged.

“We may be approaching the precipice of a disaster,” said Hidalgo, the highest-ranking county executive. “It’s out of hand right now. The good news is it’s not severe out of hand.”

The warnings of a worsening outbreak reinforced alarms sounded by national health officials over the risk of a second wave of infections beyond the initial U.S. hot spots led by New York and New Jersey.

The main measure that Hidalgo and Turner discussed was to again recommend that residents stay at home except for essential travel, such as for work, medicine and groceries. Hidalgo urged residents to not frequent public spaces such as bars or clubs in the meantime.

Houston is considering a new stay-at-home order as cases of coronavirus begin to rise again in Texas as well as other parts of the country, according to reports.

Texas began a phased reopening around Memorial Day weekend but has seen a steady rise in cases. Wednesday saw a spike of 2,504 new cases, the most for the state since the start of the pandemic.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Mayor Sylvester Turner on Thursday revealed several measures the city is considering, including the possible reopening of a previously unused hospital that was established at a football stadium. Gov. Greg Abbott ultimately has authority at the moment to impose any such measures, but the city can still advise the governor if they see the pandemic returning.

i wonder if this has anything to do with the most test being administered in one-day as well?

It appears that Texas is one of the states that includes antibody testing in their cumulative, daily counts too.

The media’s camera is panning, folks. We’re slowly moving from racial injustice back to virus cases. Anything to keep the fear and control alive.

So the large protest crowds are just fine, but you shouldn't go to bars. What sense does that make? This bitch can go frick herself.

We can't shut down the economy again.

We (the entire country) is going to have to learn to live with this.

Houston's stupid fricking mayor was in attendance at a massive funeral this week, for someone not in his family, just so he could grandstand about banning a method of detaining people that hasn't been legal in Houston for 40 years.
