Your wife's call. Support the decision she makes. We still make the trip back to LA every year to see my in-laws. I'm fine with it because we get to see lots of family. We've just been doing a small Christmas just us before we leave to exchange gifts with my son and eachother.

I took a swing at my old man one Christmas. Never dreamed that it would be his last.

2 Christmas’s in a row she has stayed at our house.

Is it really that bad to tell her she needs to find another option for Christmas? My wife is worn out and all for it, she just is too nice to actually do it.

Yeah...and one Christmas she will wake up and her mother won't be there.

Sure wish I could have my Mama for Christmas.

Absolutely not. It’s your holiday, you dictate the terms. My MIL is three times married three times divorced and her life is nothing but chaos at 60 years old. She of course is the reason all of her marriages were shite and she squandered whatever settlements she got (and didn’t deserve). One year we allowed her to bring a BF with her who she was with awhile. Rich guy, also three times divorced. They fought the whole time. It was so fricking awkward. Wife and I told her never again. Come alone or don’t come at all. We dont want that shite around our kids.

In the event of a holiday threesome would MIL be better in the role of Mrs. Claus or Slutty Elf#1?

"Hello, MIL? Yes, we are going to do an immediate family only Christmas this year. Hope your holidays are great! See you next year."

You support your wife.
If your wife wants her to stay elsewhere, make it happen. But you better make sure she’s serious.

Don’t ask me.

I had to go to bed at 8:45 because my mil was on my couch watching Chicago Med.

Gonna be a long weekend and it’s only Wednesday.

Last year this board was filled with posts about how our tyrannical government was trying to keep us from our beloved families over the holidays, stealing cherished time from us that we’d never get back.

Glad to see us finally returning to the normalcy of dreading seeing them and drinking to cope.

Tell you and your family are going camping for Thanksgiving weekend

Actually tried this one before and backfired big time. in-laws canceled their plans got a house in the same town invited my mom and planned a reg huge dinner then tried to shame us for not contributing to their dinner after they hijacked our camping and eating roasted hot dogs for Thanksgiving plan. you can't run or hide from crazy

My wife has an aunt and uncle who are divorced and the uncle is the one who married into the family but he still goes to all the family gatherings at Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. Kind of weird to hang out with your bitch ex-wife’s family but to each their own.

Posts like this remind me how blessed I am to have such a large family who still loves getting together annually for the holidays.

I have a lot of first cousins and some of my best childhood memories are of all of us playing and staying up so late on these occasions. Our parents would have bonfires, music, and big games of booray.

I’m 48 and still look forward to our holidays and watching my kids continue the tradition.
