BS, I was out at PCB that weekend. Signs were up all over the beach warning swimmers to stay out of the water.

The surf was way too rough to even consider going out there and I am a strong swimmer.

I can't speak for Miramar Beach but it seems highly unlikely to not know the dangers...

Same thing happened either last year or the year before with a baw from far south LA.

Hats off to him and anyone like him.

Fellas, it was as dangerous as I have ever seen a gulf beach

Ankle to knee deep one second and chest high breakers the next. Waves were roiling with no break in the sets.

I watched a surfer go out to the edge of the water and nope the frick out

That's exactly what happened to me a few years ago. It happens fast and if you don't recognize it right away you're in a world of trouble

We have a home in Miramar and I was there Sunday. I don’t care what flag was up, no one should have been out swimming in 8+ foot waves.

With that said, I teach my kids (7&8) all the time how to swim out of a rip current and last month we got caught up in a very strong one. My youngest panicked a bit and tried to cling to me but then I calmed him down, told him to float and we slowly drifted out of it. Didn’t even have to swim out of it.

exhaustion. The waves were relentless. You could think you are in a calm spot only to have a 4' wave surprisingly crash over you

I watched a young kid standing at the edge turn her back only to have a wave sweep her off her feet and throw her 10' from the spot she was standing. I caught the kid with my left hand as she passed me. I'd hate to think what might have happened had she been in slightly deeper water.

The kid thought she was safe enough away and would only catch a toe in the water

Wait a minute, yeah this is tragic... but for a family that goes to Forida 'recurring vacation' how do they do not know what the flags mean? A double red flag means the water to closed, you are warned not to get in the water, not just go waist deep. The flag warning system is posted on the public beaches and in every condo rental.

Lifeguards would drive by telling people to get out of the water, even on private beaches.
