Even more reason to not go in.
Hey, red flags, hurricane came through.. looks really rough out there... Let's go swimmming!
Just dumb.

quote:easy.. in 1987 we saw a rather large man trying to save some kids from his group that were all on a raft that got turned over.... he was the only male with about 20 kids and 5-6 moms.... he got all 4 kids back on the raft and pushed them towards the beach wave caught them brought them in.... same wave took him down.... we found him about 7-10 minutes later we did cpr on him to no avail.....
how do you save 3 kids but drown yourself?
the dad and wife both grew up in Metairie.
1.you can collapse from exhaustion, cramp heart attack..
2. some one on a boogie board had just gotten the last daughter when he went under.
3. It's water... anything can happen. MR Murphy and his law know no bounds.

“We saw the red flags,” Miller said. “We didn’t know what two (flags) meant

I go to the beach all the time. We were in the water with double red. It is fun to body board with the waves.

BS, I was out at PCB that weekend. Signs were up all over the beach warning swimmers to stay out of the water.
The surf was way too rough to even consider going out there and I am a strong swimmer.
I can't speak for Miramar Beach but it seems highly unlikely to not know the dangers...
agreed. I was in Destin. the double red flags have a swimmer with a line running thru him. The meaning is pretty clear. also saw plenty of LGs and a couple of deputies patrolling the beach and warning people about the rip.
but I'm sure this tragedy, like most, was the result of unintended consequences, so no point in blaming anyone.
condolences to the family.

Sounds like they all panicked and tried to fight the current. That’s a losing battle.

ad dies saving his children and this is the crap you post?
We hardly ever go to the beach and I know what double red means. They go every year it sounds like. We went last year and I taught our 7 year old what the flags mean.
These people were are old enough to know better. Even the daughters.

Exhaustion from trying to save your 3 kids
Or he could have had a heart attack in all the mayhem. Very commong for someone who is a risk for a heart attack to have one in an extreme stress situation.

I've been caught in a riptide only once. By the time I realized what was going on I was already pretty much exhausted (it didn't help that I'd been drinking beers all day). Before I knew it lifeguard came out of nowhere and threw me a buoy and started swimming horizontal to the beach. Felt kind of like a bitch getting pulled in by what looked like an 18 year old kid but that shite was necessary.
I proceed with caution out there now.

Cool for you. Even ignoring the lack of taste in posting it, Darwinism doesn't apply here.

exhaustion. The waves were relentless. You could think you are in a calm spot only to have a 4' wave surprisingly crash over you
My thought is that if you've gotten close enough to get the kids to safety, then you yourself would be close enough in to be pretty safe. I mean i get it if you were exhausted or cramped up or something, but if you've gotten the kids to safety, how are you not in safety as well?

Reading the article might help.

Damn, when I read saved 3 daughters I was thinking young daughters. But they all appear to be older.

Yeah, old enough to know what a double red flag means. The ocean doesn't play games.

its terrible to hear news like this.
however, we were there wed-sun this past week. the waves were huge, and the entire time we were there its was double red flag, no one in the water.........then in the evenings when security and life guards left, people were out there. i swim well, did water survival in the marines etc, and i thought it was insane that people were in those waters. still a sad story to hear.

Lifeguards would drive by telling people to get out of the water, even on private beaches.
We had a life guard patrolling 1mi of beach in a truck. Anytime she saw someone in the water, she would blow her whistle and get them out
