Guess what, slavers depended on that law for business.

This is clearly an extreme example, but keeping laws in place solely for the purpose of keeping a small business who is unable to adapt afloat; that makes no sense.

And I don't find the "unsafe vehicles" reason valid.

ETA: if safety is the real issue, people should pass a driving test, written and driving, every 10 years.

You mean, it's not just a guy asking for title, insurance, your mileage, and whether you want a one year or two year tag?

Not in the five parishes that do emissions testing. We can only get one year stickers in those parishes, too.

I've gotten precisely one inspection sticker ticket. I got rung up on Hwy. 1 South just crossing the intracoastal canal. The cop had me good, about 13 miles over the limit. I went to Port Allen to pay the ticket and I asked the lady at the counter if I could speak to the DA to possibly get the ticket reduced to a non-moving violation. She looked at me and asked if I had a valid inspection sticker. I said that I absolutely had a valid inspection sticker.

Then she looked at me like the idiot I was and asked again if I had a valid inspection sticker. I sheepishly told her that I did not, in fact, have a valid inspection sticker. She said the officer must have miswritten the ticket and she corrected the ticket in the system.

I paid my fine for my non-moving violation of not having a valid inspection sticker and went on my way with my receipt showing the corrected ticket and my payment for the proper ticket.

So, I guess it's good for that.

I didn't think they made a dime off of inspections.

One hasn't had one for about 5 years, lived out of state so no point getting a sticker that would be expired by the time I ever drove back. Other truck's sticker was from 2009. Think it fell off finally and got trashed...

We used to have inspection stickers here in Arkansas but we got rid of them right around the time I started driving, thankfully.

I bet that his grandfather was the one who protected the buggy whip manufacturers.

What a dick.

Curing cancer would put hard working oncologists and chemo manufacturers out of business, so I reckon this Stefanski a-hole is opposed to curing cancer too.

This. Just like places that sell fishing licenses they probably do it in hopes of getting business.

No, the state changed vendors a couple years ago and the new stickers are known to be shitty and fall off after a month or so.

How will the state troopers wives make cash money if we get rid of inspection stickers?

I think the places get something like half. There is a place in mandeville by the causeway, that's all he does. No mechanic work, no gas pumps.

Shitty reporting. I was in the room for this discussion and Stefanski asked the guy presenting the bill how it would affect the small businesses. He never said it would hurt them, just asked the question.

Why?

He didn't know how much if any money the place got vs government

Answer was $4.50 per inspection

ETA: also this bill didn't get rid of the fee, you were still going to have to mail a check to DMV to get card

I just don't think how it affects those businesses has any barring on whether or not they should be eliminated
