Ironic that Al.com ran this story considering how steadfastly they oppose “school choice”legislation.

Ah yes, the LaToya defense.

White pages says she has 2 homes. One close to Hoover and one in Bessemer.

White pages is racist, yo.

So many people cheat this system in St Tammany Parish

If you really want to get frustrated, this isn’t a secret. The school board and administration are fully aware of it. I was told directly, “We receive federal funding, about 10% of the budget, for every student, so we let them in.”

Meanwhile, I’m paying taxes to support these schools, and there’s a constant push to raise or extend those taxes. The people gaming the system don’t even live in the district, so the increased demand for these schools doesn’t benefit my property value at all.

If someone wants to avoid the higher tax rates in in the district or St. Tammany Parish because they're cheap and a leech, then they should send their kids to the schools in their own district instead of taking advantage of a system they don’t contribute to.

It’s just accepted here that all of govt is a mess.

And I’m specifically referring to intra-parish district-hopping. Someone wants to live on the water, but let me use Grammy’s address in town for residence because better schools.

In fairness, white people do this all the time where I am from to be in the behest school district and I never remember anyone caring and it was completely known

ETA: port Allen kids claiming Brusly addresses

Now where I live Covington kids claiming mandeville addresses.

Yep, north of I-12ers but going to mandeville or Fontainbleau

Now, this maybe the one time the race card could be legit. I have a feeling of Slidell people of certain persuasions starting doing this in numbers and showing up at mandeville high there maybe a change

Who's to say this couldn't have been the situation as well?

If it was that easy the would’ve just shown proof that they reside in the district and this would be over. They can’t show proof of that, because it doesn’t exist.

Details like this don’t matter when the race card has been played.

Yeah, and I am all for it. I guess the point I was trying to (and failed) make was once "racism" is invoked, as it always is, all the other details seem to fall by the wayside.

Shipman told AL.com that problems began in October when school leaders asked her daughter to draw a map indicating her home.

The third grader then drew an image of her grandparents’ home in McCalla. That property is in Shipman’s name, although she rents a home in Hoover.

Seems like she is contending that she lives in the home she rents in Hoover, and her parents live in the other one, not in Hoover.

So the answer is, the article doesn't make that clear.

Would you rather have the system they run to, or the system they run away from? A few kids trying to get in is a small price to pay for the system you want

I was technically breaking the rules my last year going to school in Metairie… I finished out the year in Metairie despite moving to Chalmette over Thanksgiving break

They can try, but they shouldn’t be allowed to actually get in.

If they do it right, the only evidence they’re not where they’re supposed to be is kid gossip… and if a district tries to act on that, harassment lawsuits incoming

If they do it right should mean that they live in the district where the send their kids and no lying required.
