Have you seen the desperate attempt to keep the Asian Carp out of the Great Lakes? Or the problems with the pythons in the Everglades?
Bee populations (and other insect populations) are on the decline. If a huge predator comes along to attack an already vulnerable population, it could be catastrophic.

just read up on this. looks like they're stocking ponds & lakes w/ gar. but they're worried fisherman will have trouble passing up the "trophy" sized gar.

Perhaps you're referring to this:
Beekeepers call it an extruder. It's a barrier placed between the lower brood chamber and the upper honey containers which keeps the queen confined to the lower section. You don't want eggs and grubs in your honey or accidentally remove the queen when you're robbing your hive.
That's actually a pretty good idea. I can't think of any specific problem it would introduce. And it would be effective against those hornets.

You're right. Ideally, the Japanese Honey Bees should use plasma bombardment of the hornet's home nest from orbit.
But, they're stubborn and stuck in their traditions, so they use this slow method instead.
