I have 2005 Silverado that just turned over 300K. I generally change engine oil every 5K and have replaced transmission fluid, differential oil, belts, hoses, spark plugs once during the vehicle life.

I have to say that the spark plug replacement was a waste of money.

Sounds like my point is pricing out. Basically every used vehicle on the lot is running OEM everything but oil. Terrifying if you're buying a used vehicle.

Why is that terrifying?

You just have to accept that cheap cars these days will basically go 100k then fall apart. Something like a Toyota will do 2-300K.

There's a 2011 Camry in my family that's never had anything but oil changes, brakes, tires, wipers, etc., and it has 220k on it right now.

Not really….because you can tell if anything is wrong with any of those systems, if you know what to look for (eg, transmission slipping, differential whining, radiator repairs, etc.).

A knowledgable mechanic can tell a whole lot by spending a half day on a vehicle. Trouble is, most people simply don’t want to pay for that on a vehicle that they don’t own.

And let me tell you if you own an extended warranty and do everything yourself you better document document document and keep a log book and receipts. They will deny your claim because you've done 0 maintenance if it wasn't done at the dealership.

I'm not 100% stickler but I change out suspension and other things before they fail. I do most of my fluids. Though I think my transmission fluid is original. At this point but sure I should open it.
.
I do my 3 differential though. I also go in the Lexus site and log everything. So that there is a record. Before I got car dealer did all maintenance.

I keep my wife's 4-runner up to date with everything. It's worth the peace of mind and not to hear her worrying about if something is about go wrong. Funny thing is that's why we bought a 4-runner so she wouldn't have to worry about that.

2016 4-runner that has everything up to date and on schedule. It's mint condition. Probably keeping it forever because she wants it forever.

The new Tundras recommend spark plugs every 40,000 miles. I only do it because I don't want them to deny me a new engine if it blows up. About to hit 80,000 on my 2024 and will be my second set of plugs. They aren't cheap either.

Turbos are hard on spark plugs. Without a turbo the spark plugs it calls for would last 100K.

When I take my vehicles in for routine oil changes -

“Sir, it looks like it is time to flush the cooling system, change and flush the transmission fluid, flush the brake fluid, change the cabin filter, replace the fuel filter and spark plugs. We can do all that today for just $3,873.19”

Me - “Next oil change we can catch that stuff.”
