because they are having to write off ALMOST SIXTEEN BILLION DOLLARS after they pulled the plug on their EV projects earlier this year

Car & Driver

Odyssey, Accord and HR-V will not be updated until at least early 2030

Acura RDX was already going to disappear for a couple of years while Honda got the RSX electric SUV ready, but now that's gone so they're going to have to scramble to get the next-gen RDX ready

Integra production will continue as-is until at least 2032

MDX will not get a new gen until at least 2031 when it will be about 10 years old, which may as well be 400 years in the luxury SUV space.

If we can get Honda and Toyota back to naturally aspirated engines, 8-speed transmissions, we'll be fine.

Bought a RAV4 that is exactly that. My F-150 has twice as many cylinders but half as many gears though.

Honda is in bad shape. Their powertrains are already outdated. Im a big Honda fan but they risk alot here but not bringing more advanced powertrains to market sooner along with better technology inside their vehicles.

Honda's V6s and the 4cyls they put in their hybrids are NA plus the base Civic engine and the HR-V engine, and Toyota's hybrids all have NA 4cyls. Nonhybrid Corollas and Corolla Cross have NA 4cyls.

Point is, they do exist, it's just not a given anymore.

I love when people have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

Fair dinkum - for Toyota, seems like the vehicles I look at are all turbos (Highlander, pickups). They replaced 2 very, very reliable bases (the old 3.5 V6 and 5.7 V8) with sketchy turbos.

Honda I know less about. The Civic and Accord seem to be running NA plants. Good for them. No wonder no one else can sell cars better than those two (including Lexus with Toyota).

“Toyota hybrids all have NA 4 cyls.”

Tacaoma hybrids are 4 cyl turbocharged. The non-hybrids are 4 cyl turbocharged also.
I was going to buy one but decided to buy a Ridgeline instead-NA 6 cyl.
Maybe doesn’t look as good but rides better.
At 74 when I bought it I was more concerned with reliability and ride than “cool”
Had it 1 1/2 years, very happy with it.

I didn't allow anything. This was foisted upon us by California and the CAFE standards. I drove my 95 F-150 until the wheels fell off and put them back on a few times. Like recycling, its an illusion that gives blue hairs something to yell about and gives DC grifters another unreachable goal to campaign for/against forever.

Outdated is a good thing for some of us. I put the hen in a Pilot because it still has the normal V-6, everything else in class is turbo 4 bangers. Given a choice they can keep that shite

If by "stay the same" you mean "go up with everyone else", I agree.

Something I really like about Mazda is they give you options with NA engines that are decently powered along with Turbos for all their models (except the Miata).

I wish someone would build a basic, reiable, "outdated" car and sell it for >$20k.

Until then, I will drive old Toyotas.

Honda should stop trying to do dumb shite like EV and turbo hybrids and focus on their ICEs that until a few years ago were considered top performing and reliable

And fix the new Prelude and make it cheaper. That's not the car we wanted Honda

If I was a billionaire, I would start a car company that made pragmatic vehicles with NA V6s, knobs for everything, body on frame, and reliable transmissions.

I'd make a brain trust of a bunch of over-worked auto-mechanics that work on dozens of vehicles of all types every day, along with car designers, and make something absolutely bulletproof.

In reality, if I was a billionaire, I'd be a permavacationer and most people would never see me again
