Thinking of trading in my gas guzzler since I’m starting to drive more for work. Really like the look of the accord way more than the Camry. How is the ride? Smooth? Loud? Going to be mostly highway driving. I like the exterior of the new RAV4 but am not a big fan of the interior. Any other suggestions?

You came to right place. Me and the gf have an Accord and a 2020 Rav4.

Get the Rav 4. I will tell you this though. The passenger seat of the Rav4 is NOT built for tall people. It has less head room than the Accord passenger seat. Other than that, the Rav 4 is very nice and better than a Camry or Accord.

If you decide between Camry and Accord.
The Camry has more power, a significantly smoother suspension, and is quieter than the Accord. But Toyota costs a little more than Honda. That's about the only difference between the two. Both will last 300k miles with oil changes a tuneup.

In my family, my siblings and I (3 kids) owned accords as our first car.

1994: we bought 2nd hand in 2000, the car was sold in 2011
2000: we bought 2nd hand in 2002, the car was sold in 2015
2008: we bought brand new, the car was sold in 2020

each car had 200k miles+, each one never had major engine or tranny issues. routine maintenance: oil change, filters, spark plugs, etc. that's about it.

reliable is a vast understatement. but its just a basic, get it done care. no great bells or whistles.

What I will say is the engine is about efficiency these days (I think engines after 2014 or so) which makes the drive not "enjoyable". suspension isn't as great as previous either, but those are things we're comparing to more expensive cars at this point.

If i want a car that will get me 25+MPG, lasts me 10 years, I'd get an accord again.

I’ve had 5 Honda’s

2000 Accord LX 5-spd - sold at 191,000 when the engine started burning oil

2000 Accord EX-L V6 - sold at 176,000 when I decided to upgrade to my Acura

2008 Acura TL Type S - currently has 171,000. Only mechanical issue I’ve ever had with it was a busted heater core valve that I easily replaced myself. It has the typical 3rd gen TL cracked dashboard though.

2005 Acura TSX - bought it as a flip car with 198,000, ran perfectly fine, replaced two front wheel bearings and hubs, sold for twice what I bought it for, no issues.

2006 Honda Civic Si - blew an engine in it by money shifting and had to drop a new one in; other than a few rattles, no issues. Currently has 189,000

All of my Honda’s have been wonderful cars. I would recommend getting a used one over a brand new one.

I second the 2018 Accord 2.0T Touring. VERY fun to drive, kicks the speed up smoothly and fast. Comfortable ride, good mileage, decent sound system, tho it took some tweaking. I like the HUD and navigation screen as well.

I miss Playing CDs, so now I have to rip my collection to a USB stick. The sound system will play lossless hi quality bitrates, too.

We have owned three Accords, and they were great cars, but I will not buy another new Honda because I hate the service department at our local dealer.

They were very aggressive about up-selling service and almost certainly dishonest. Once the power steering pump went out on vacation, and I had an out-of-state dealer replace it and the fluid. A month later, the local dealer told my wife she needed an expensive power steering fluid flush because our fluid was old and dirty. They were only slightly ashamed when I called them out on that. There were always allegedly cracked motor mounts and other crap they were claiming needed $$$.

Switched to Toyota, and the service department experience has been 100% different. They never push extra crap, and they have worked with me on the price of parts when I found them cheaper online. They work with me, not against me.

Your mileage may vary. In your town, the Honda service department may be delightful, but the rep of the service department is worth considering with respect to any brand. You'll be dealing with them at least through the warranty stage.

We have a 2018 with the 2.0. Put it in sport mode and it can fly. Very fun to drive.

We've own 14 Hondas from Civics to Pilots and all have been excellent cars. I was actually very surprised at the power and acceleration of the Accord hybrid. Great car.

This is a great breakdown. I have a 2016 and agree with most of what the poster stated.

I'll add I test drove an EX & a Touring, and felt the Touring was worth the extra money.

The radio is a non-issue to me, and I think it is fine. However, this is a preferential thing and I'd imagine would be the same for all cars in this price point.

I have had my car for 4 years and the only exterior issue is someone dinged my door with a bike or shopping cart. So far, it is the only place with paint issues (Platinum White Pearl), and it has not spread since.

I traded in my '02 Accord for the '18 Sport 1.5L when it first came out....what a wonder 15+ years will do. My opinion is pretty consistent with those commenting before me; Great lines, tremendous work on the interior, infotainment is top notch, nice finishes and roomy. Rides great, but slimline tires mean you're at the mercy of road conditions in regards to noise. (The wheel protection package is a sham, of course. Don't buy it) Great for zipping around town and highway miles; 30-38 mpg easy everywhere I go.

It's a Honda, it's reliable and now with 21st century bells and whistles

The touring def has the best interior with full leather. The sport has hybrid seats, but still comfy. I picked the sport for purely cosmetic reasons. The wheels and exterior accents on the sport are really nice IMO.

I don't know what it is with the exterior paint. If you look at it wrong it chips or dings. Black im sure has something to do with it. Its one of my biggest complaints about the car. I do have a paint protection package, but never really read the fine print to see what it covers.

I’ve owned two Accords. Both great cars. The problem with both has been the paint. I don’t know what the deal is but both cars starting fading chipping paint. Even one that was garage kept.

My fiance' has a 2016 Honda Accord Sport and the turning radius is laughably bad. I don't know if it's just her car but every turn into a parking spot is a two point turn. It's really frustrating.

in 2016 i bought a used 2014 Accord Sport and it has been an amazing car and drives/rides excellent, spacious enough for me and im 6'-0" 215 lbs, plenty of passenger room and alot of trunk space as well.

Only issues that I have had are my door locking mechanisms went out on the driver and passenger side at the same time a couple months back and I have had quite a few flats which is weird because I never had a flat in any vehicle before this one.

Perfectly average car. Road noise is bad but I drive a Sport and don’t know if that makes a difference.

Looking forward to something different within the year.

Is this a known problem with Honda’s? I’ve never had one before.

Yeah they are notoriously unreliable and costly to fix when they break (like any transmission)

I’ve had a few Altima rentals with the CVT, and my last one felt like it was about to go out (less than 20K miles)

Granted, Nissan has been notoriously unreliable ever since Renault acquired them, but trust me, stay away from any vehicle that has a CVT
