It's a swamp. It always was a swamp.

The flooding is probably driven by changes to the drainage from roadways and other development plus of course the 13 inches of rain in a day...

Or because it's a swamp.

Not just Ascension but anyone that has travelled down Burbank and Highland all the way to Gardere has seen why you shouldn't buy in that area. And houses keep going up. Look at the Soccer complex. That is what that land has always done. The water has nowhere to go once it's there. It stays for weeks.

InB4 some poster in Ascension or Iberville blames black people in Baton Rouge for the shocking reality that swamps flood.

Well if you moved into a neighborhood call “Bluff Swamp” that might be some indication of the area you decided to live in.

i don't think they're blaming this on "black people" b/c the largest complaints seem to be about very white-dominated development

It never flooded like that until the Iberville Parish President went rogue and started shutting off the control structure at Alligator Bayou and putting up the Aquadam across the road. The state really needs to step in on that situation and fix the problem.

I'm pretty sure there were a few people talking about flooding when all this residential development really started in AP....but the community as a whole was like "frick all that noise let me get a cheap house!"

In the end it all comes back to bite you in the arse.

There’s a shite ton of irony in that one title....

Side note: We have a camp on the West Pearl in the middle of the Honey Island swamp. Rule of thumb is, when you build a camp, make sure it’s above the water markings on the trees. Even if you do, it’s no guarantee it won’t flood.

Used to hunt duck out there... I feel like there was a lawsuit won by landowners that drained the lake. Things have been screwed since

A place with "ridge" in the name is a better bet than "swamp". Even a place with "prairie" in the name is probably a safer choice than building a house in a swamp.

Aren't these properties on the Iberville side of the aquadam?

What’s inside of that buffer thing in the first pic? Water? Does a tube filled with water keep water out? Honestly asking? I’d think the water would get under it and it would balance out at some point right?

Maybe if they weren’t so scared to live with a few black people they wouldn’t have to run off to the frickin swamps to live.
