They’d heard rumors their new home was once owned by a notorious Prohibition-era bootlegger. Now it seems they’ve found the goods.

In 2019, Nick Drummond and his partner purchased an old house in Ames, a village in upstate New York. An architectural designer, Drummond began renovating the house and, this month, launched social media accounts for @bootleggerbungalow to document the project. Drummond explained the name in his first Instagram post: “We were told the home was rumored to have been built by a childless German baron who turned to bootlegging in the 1920s,” he wrote. Drummond said, initially, they believed the rumors of a man named Adolph Humpfner were probably false.
However, Drummand says he found plenty of reasons to believe earlier this month. “We were just working on removing old finishes and everything and that’s when we found those first secret compartments,” he told Today. “I was trying to get the trim off (outside). I was taking this thing off and this whole thing fell out. At first, I assumed it was just insulation or something then I was like, why is there glass?” Drummond threw on the camera and documented that the entire area was packed solid with imported whisky dated from 1923.

Old Smuggler is a $15 bottle now. I am sure it was different then but it was also bootlegged imported, so it might blind you...

pretty much all of the deaths/blindings etc were from government poisoned liquor.
instead of dumping it and arresting the kennedys, I mean bootleggers, they poisoned it to make a point, and to scare the populace.

That's the kind of thing you hire someone to market and sell them for big $

This alcohol is still illegal to drink. The law was changed after it was produced and it was illegally smuggled into the country. I hope local authorities or maybe the HOA leadership will make sure this liqour is all destroyed. Right is right.

Hard to imagine things being so bad I would pull the siding off my house incognito and store whisky there.
Think about what it must have been like to prompt that behavior.

I'd absolutely try it.
I'd probably do like the homeowners and keep a bottle or two and auction off the rest. Article says they can fetch $500-$1200 per full bottle.
Plus, this isn't some backcountry moonshine. It's scotch with a certificate of purity.
OT: mix it with coke.

The story reads like a reality show setup, especially the part where they set up a social media account for the renovation project, for some reason, allegedly prior to discovering anything. And presto! They found prohibition stuff. What luck.
No thanks. If I want to get jerked off by reality whores, I'll tune in to Oak Island.

Those pillow-biters wouldn’t know what to do with a good whiskey. They only drink Shiraz.
