Most alleys create a wind tunnel effect, with wind going from one end to the other. See which end the wind enters from, then pour about a cup of ammonia at the end. It will spread and be carried down the alley making it impossible to stay in there.
Pepper spray will do the same. The soft breeze is your friend.

Ammonia is a great idea. Don't do anything to get you arrested like boiling water. You don't want to be fifty and trying to explain why you threw boiling water on homeless people.

I would love to hear recordings of the interactions between tOP and the local police. If you come off IRL as you tend to on here, the cops probably hate you more than the homeless.

Or one of these blowing air out (not in) with a window open in another room. This is why you don't live downtown. I just moved to Seattle in April and found a great apartment near Northgate Mall off Greenwood. Bus takes me everywhere I need to go. You just picked a rough neighborhood bud. North Seattle is where it is at.

There's your first problem.
You can just as easily deal with the traffic and live in Federal Way or Renton.
It's not that even a bad drive from Tacoma itself.

You could pay a local tough to take care of the situation for you, but he may just slap you, take your money and provoke the bums to harrass you more. May not be a good idea for you.
