Or cash will be king. I’m not hiring a general contractor for flooring, roofing or fencing. What’s behind my fence and in my home is my business.

If it's not structural, gas or plumbing....who cares

Can't be over $10k. fricking easy, just break up the work orders to be short of $10k.

Homeowners should be more upset than handymen at this bullshite.
DING DING DING Winner winner chicken dinner. I did not know for certain that the Louisiana board was made up of large, well heeled contractors, but I knew for certain that all of the SE, the SW, the NE and the PNW was this way. It is all about limiting competition. No different than the state Bar or the state medical licensing board...none has any responsibility if one of their linesee's cuts the wrong limb off or burns down your house...it is all about limiting competition.

You can't do this when obtaining permits. They have ways to catch on to people trying to do this.

frick these MF it’s my home and I should be able to do what ever the frick I want! This is crazy that the voters are allowing the state to over step like this. I am probably going to move and sell as soon as I have the opportunity. I just don’t get it.

The only people who has any interest whatsoever is the home owner and their mortgage company and their insurance carrier. The latter 2 are all in on having as many people on the hook as possible...they ain't going to support any kind of blanket action that would drive up the costs to consumers...they will merely refuse to pay claims and charge more for interest when a homeowner does something stupid. The licensing board though, they care...they have a vested interest in who is doing what to your home because they do not want any competition.

Sounds like locals there need to get on the ball and harass him and prepare to vote him out next election. I don’t think Jennings folks will appreciate this.

Good luck finding any areas where the licensing boards for building trades, especially, ain't in the process of running rough shod over property owners and consumers...it is across the board, red states, blue states, makes no difference because it is all about green. County zoning boards are just as bad...
Do some research into how arc fault circuit interupters came about, how they "work" (they do not), how much they have increased the costs to wire a house and how little they have done to improve the safety of wiring in homes in the United States. All pushed by manufacturers, one in particular who missed out on the initial GFCI windfall...Siemens...
Once was time when a man would cut green lumber off his place, stack rocks up for a foundation, build a home out of said green lumber and raise a family. Some of those buildings still exist today around the world. Find a tract house development built in 2023 in 2073 and see how many major renovations had to be done...not remodeling to keep up with style changes but major renos because of shoddy workmanship and shoddy materials required by laws and ordinances put in place by people who make their nut charging people to build and install such crap. These things are costing Americans billions of dollars, is doing nothing to improve safety, doing nothing to protect property values and doing nothing to make housing more affordable....but folks will line up around the corner to buy a home in an HOA community because folks are dumber than a sack of hammers and can't imagine a real estate developer, a building contractor or a mortgage broker being a crooked son of a bitch...it has to be the politicians. And it is, at the behest of the industry.

So what? That’s between the owners and workers.

I think there were two I couldn't confirm 100% but you can see they all have a vested interest in cutting out the ability of smaller handyman from being able to work without being under a GC

People who want to talk about the swamp and uniparty need to look no further than Louisiana. There are no Ds or Rs, they only care about enriching themselves and their good ole baws. Nothing is being passed in the interests of the public.

Do we have a few General contractors or their relatives in the Legislature? Looks like the good ole boys want to limit competition.

I know a person looking for contractors DTB to get 3 quotes. No one in that vicinity wants to work.

How many leglslators supporting this are term limited?
This is the negative of term limits. At the endc of their last term, they become completely unaccountable.
Hopefully there are enough people running for re-election who want to get re-elected, to beat this back.
Also, there aren't enough contractors - licensed or otherwise - to do home renovation work as it is.

I doubt seriously if many or any of those companies listed are interested in the home repair business and can gain from licensing small contractors.

$10,000 is such a low bar, especially right now
