I remember the Advocate used to have a 1-800... wrestling hotline you could call for updates and rumors.
My BR friends told me about it and I used to call from out of state when I lived there as a kid Takin advantage of

The NWO years in WCW was by far the greatest time to be a wrestling fan. So many great moments during that run.
Definitely the most profitable time for wrestling and wrestlers.

Wrestling was better than the NFL. And the ratings showed it. FFB saved their arse a few years later.

Ratings were unbelievable for both WWF and WCW in the 90s. It's amazing how much they have fallen off.

What an awesome night that was. I was 15.

The NWO was the greatest stable in wrestling history(Horsemen aside) and almost single-handedly put Vinny Mac out on his arse.

Hey YO!

I met Randy Poffo before he was famous. He wrestled locally some with his brother Lanny. Their father, Angelo Poffo was a wrestler too.

Did Bob Ryder run it? He was living in Baton Rouge in the 90’s.

I got my info from the bagpipe report (free online newsletter) and later shite like the DDT Digest website.

NWO invading WCW and attacking Rey Mysterio, Buff Bagwell, Scotty Riggs and Arn Anderson in the backstage area is one of the most realistic wrestling angles I'll ever remember. As a born and bred WCW kid from SC, it really felt like the Yankees from WWF were invading us to destroy our wrestling company.

That happened, but Eric bitched out and closed the door instead of letting them in and being a genius

If he had let them in, and closed the doors behind them with wcw cameras on them..they gonna shoot-fight their way out??

As someone raised on the NWA and mainly Mid-south/UWF locally, with some JCP and GCW on WTBS later, the real Yankee invasion happened when Hogan first came to WCW and took the title, then recreated his shitty stale “overcoming monsters” supplied by Sullivan’s Dungeon of Doom. We went from Flair/Dibiase in Mid South, to Flair/Steamboat trilogy in ‘89, to this Yankee shite with Hogan beating all the monsters.

Even as a kid, I hated Flair at the time, but respected the fact that he would take on all comers from all territories. 1980’s WWF was cartoon bullshite to me, and a recreation of that in the early ‘90’s in WCW (with Hogan looking quite mortal while off the gas at that time), pissed me off. His Hollywood heel turn was honestly a breath of fresh air.
