I got a good one for today. This ole boy thought his prospects were better in the Manchac Swamp than with the State Police. If it hasn't happened already, this dude will find out shortly and it will be painful but it will be quick.

Russian Navy sailed to the other side of the world to fight Japan in 1904 and lost their entire fleet and most of their possessions in the Pacific.

The French invasion of Russia in winter.
Millions dead. Those deaths resonate to this day in the short stature of French men.

Mongol seige of Baghdad is up there.

They didn’t learn because Iraq in the late 1990s/early 2000s is another good one.

They tried to hide that yellow cake from the good guys and we absolutely obliterated their entire existence for a generation or two.

Hopefully those stiff necked Iraqis have learned their lesson for good.

generally see that as more justification than Napoleon had. Napoleon's invasion was more just to invade.

Well, the Tsar kept breaking treaties. But in both instances they could have just invaded western Russia and started digging in. But they just had to chase the Russian Army into the deep Russian wasteland.

Sadly because of their atrocities (and the knowledge we gained) from it we let some of their top people off a little easy.

didn't see it mentioned and it's obviously not on Japan's level, but I'll submit 10/7/2023.

not taking a side, but Hamas has been pretty happy to launch a few rockets and get rowdy over the years, but they figured Israel would kinda attack and then get their hand slapped by the UN/world, but Israel said "I'll be your huckleberry."

again, not belaboring the last 80 years of history, or assigning right or wrong (they're both asshoe) but Palestine/Hamas greatly underestimated the response.

Has to be Pearl Harbor. The bombs actually saved thousands of lives… I’ve have often wonder why it took so long to send that message to Japan and the rest of the world though… I mean that changed world history forever.. until 9/11.
