High school graduation question. RE: leaving early

I have a family member graduating with honors. They’ll be at the top of the list to get their diploma out of about 300 graduates. Would you leave after they receive their diploma or suck it up and sit for the 2.5 hour entire thing?

Leave. No questions about it. Unless you are sticking around for pictures, get out.

Is there a graduation party for your family after? Then stay. If not and it’s not immediate family, then take off
Also, with 300 kids for a HS graduation…it won’t last 2.5 hours

Don't even go. That kid probably doesn't need or desire your approval. Send them a bigger check and meet them at the after party. If the kid is soft, go to the entire ceremony. He/she may quiz you on it later.
My younger brother and I were running late for my older brother's med school graduation and ended up missing the entire ceremony, but were there when the graduates came out of the UNO arena. My father was was PISSED! I told him, "He'll never know, if you don't tell him. But if you do tell him, he'll pretend not to care, but will probably have his ego injured. So let's not tell him." My dad elected to tell him. As predicted, he said he didn't care.

My nephew graduated last Friday. There were 7 valedictorians and they all gave speeches

I've always planned ahead for these things. I look into what the after party situation is and see how I can help with that. Oh yall want to go back to the graduates house and cook hamburgers? I'll have them ready when you get there.

Are they having a party or dinner afterward? “I need to leave to go cook and get everything ready”
That’s my go to.
That’s my go to.

This board has some trashy people.
We’re respectful and stay for the entire graduation.

Leave unless family party. Or go back for party. If not a close relative, just send a check. They don’t really care if you are there, it’s a gift receiving ritual. A well earned rite of passage.

That’s what I’d do. When my daughter was graduating college, a family member went to her house to prep food and get things ready. I’d leave after my relative walked the stage to go set up. But time help!

Stay for the whole thing or don’t go at all

The people that leave early are the same ones with air horns when Jamal gets his one and only diploma.

If you have a need to leave, then leave. If you're just going home to play video games, just stay. It's not that much of an ask. And as someone else stated, you're probably looking at about 90 minutes, maybe two hours max for that many graduates.
