Hertz or any other rental company that tries to pull this shite can kiss my arse. I’d never rent from them again.
Isn’t Hertz the same brand that had people thrown in jail for “stealing” vehicles that Hertz was still actively renting out?

Another reason to dislike and distrust Hertz. I had traveled for business for 30 years, and most of the rentals were Hertz. I retired last May but I'd had a trip to Minneapolis where I rented a Hertz vehicle first of May.
Fast forward to last week. I'm traveling soon and wanted to use the 50,000+ points I had accrued in their Gold program to rent a car for a week. That would have been around 3500 points. To my surprise, ALL of my points were gone. Hertz instituted a policy that the points disappear one year after you last rent. I contacted a customer rep and she was unable to do anything to restore my points.
I will never rent from Hertz again.

Haven’t rented a car in years, but I would assume they would have to prove you did it? Do you get an AI printout showing the car didn’t have anything wrong with it when u got it?

Hertz gotta make money to pay Tom Brady.

That's not what they are saying. I've rented cars with dings. I told the attendants and they've all told me they only look at major dents or scratches. Anything small gets ignored.
I just rented from Budget last week, and they. videoed the car before I took it.
That way they can say there was no prior damage in that spot.
I'm no fan of rental car companies but not wanting to pay for dings and stuff is tough chit.. And it's NOT normal wear and tear either. It's something that have to fix but they didn't have to before you took it.

were I to leave a small ding on the fender of a Hertz car, and they expected me to pay a fee, I would explain to them that it's unreasonable to expect a pristine rental car. Then I'd tell them "Get fricked."
If they charged the fee to my card, I would demand proof that it was fixed as well.

My sister hit a curb (classic) in a rental car one time and messed up the inside of the fender. I just took some super glue and glued it back together and turned that bitch in like nothing happened. No one ever said anything.

Seems like this is a push to get all of their customers to purchase insurance to pass that cost onto them. The problem with that, is you're not a ground breaking product offering. I hope they get bud lighted to bankruptcy.
On another note. I returned an enterprise rental and all the reps at the san Antonio airport carried reflective, lighted circles about 2' in diameter to light up the vehicle to spot dents and what not. Had never seen that before.

Yeah, they aren't fixing any dings, scratches or wheel scuffs. This is a profit center for them pure and simple. The last car I rented from Hertz had more dings than the MRAPs that I rode around in Iraq.
Now I get them having issues if it you have a real dent or fender bender, but paying for what is essentially the cost of a new wheel for a scuff is a predatory business practice.

What's next...a bobber in the gas tank for not fully topping off the gas tank?? Or not, picking up some dirt/pebbles off the floor mats?
Sir, would you be interested in joining our Hertz revenue growth committee?

Stuff like this is why I don’t rent from Hertz. They have become a pain in the arse to deal with.
Posted on 7/2/25 at 9:23 am to SPEEDY
At least they didn’t have him arrested like Hertz loves to do. They’ve been a shite company for a long time.

This is the problem, they control the information to make the decision. Plus, it’s fricking wear and tear to some extent.
I rented a car in Ireland. Bunch of chiseling Gypsies at the rental desk. Reach the parking lot gate and realize that no existing damage was documented. Park, go back inside and only then do they mention that it is my responsibility to take photos of any damage and provide that when I return the car.
Sure enough, they were looking for damage money at the return.
