Seriously, all BS aside, what was heroic? They did what they were trained and paid, usually pretty well, to do. They replaced a liver, or part of one.
Or did one of them say "here, take a piece of my liver to help this person"? I bet not. It was just one more in a long line of surgeries they do every day, will do again tomorrow and in six months and a year. they don't know your nephew's name today.
He got a great result? Good. They did their job. I bet if something which was well within the acceptable risk/informed consent went wrong and you nephew died, you'd have a vastly different opinion. I see that every single day.
The fact that someone does something because they are "trained" or "paid" to do it in no way, shape or form diminishes the act itself.
I hope they don't remember his name, because that means they have been heroes to countless others.
But I'd bet my arse they can remember vivid details about patients they've lost.
At the end of the day, you're a miserable frick who in all likelihood hasn't accomplished shite, nor has the intestinal fortitude to take on a challenge for the fear of failure.
Your existence is predicated on bringing others down so you can feel a microcosm of self worth and validation of being the definition of mediocrity.
You deserve pity at being such a miserable frick and unworthy of any further time.

Actually I agree with the Curmudgeon.I had a long career in ICU and saved a few patients by defibrillating them or recognizing they had an impending issue developing and dealing with it,things of that nature.I had families thanking me and calling me a hero a few times.It made me kinda uncomfortable,I would explain it was my job,what I studied and trained for and that I got a great deal of personal satisfaction by saving my patient.
To me a hero is someone who goes into a burning building to pull someone out or stop a pit bull attack.Policeman and fireman frequently perform heroic acts,it’s not a normal reaction to go towards danger.
It was uncomfortable to care for patients with communicable diseases but as long as I wore the PPE’s I never felt in much danger.

We absolutely over use the term hero anymore. We have cheapened it for those who are true heroes.

This sign is less for the doctors and nurses and more for the staff being pulled from different areas into these covid units. They’re being voluntold what to do. It’s for EVS, food prep guys and other ancillary staff that make a hospital run for minimal pay that keep hospitals running. They need and deserve whatever recognition they can get
