The word "hero" is cheapened for sure and it has been for a long time. Calling every motherfricker who dons a uniform a "hero" started after the first Gulf war and ramped up to the ridiculous after 911.
Well I'm a licensed healthcare professional. I'm not gonna tell you what kind but I could be one of these nurses or doctors you're talking about.
Anyway, none of us are "heroes". We're people who have respectable and dignified jobs. People that serve the community and in many ways should be admired but heroes? No, not a frickin' one. Not even the ones working the isolation units.
It's a nasty little bug for sure but at this time, there's nothing about taking care of these patients that has risen to "hero" status. Maybe it will later on but right now? No.

What OP is missing is that it's just a sign. The hospital has it up to show recognition to people working hard in a difficult time to work in a hospital.
It's there to show some appreciation to people who don't usually get a lot. Not to get into a fight about whether the definition of hero has gone too far.
That's why it's fine for the hospital to put a banner like that up, and it's silly that OP is all offended.
