This is flawed logic. Every single person in a society benefits from a more educated population. Want to keep more people off welfare? Let then get a quality education. Want to keep people off the streets? Let them get a quality education.

I totally understand the small government/libertarian mentality of "let me pay for what I use," but when it comes to education it doesn't make sense. Everyone pays for public education and they should, because everyone benefits from it.

How does the child tax credit factor into any of what you just said?

You are taking money out of the system. Not putting in.

Then there's no country tard. This isn't that hard to understand. People will have kids. If you tax people with kids the same, they won't be able to afford it. If they can't afford it, more people will "need" (be on) government assistance programs. It will cost the single person more to support those services.

Look, I'm all for people paying for what they use, but this is just dumb. People are going to have kids. That's not something that's going to change so you work around that fact instead of trying to change the fact.

It's $2,000, $1,400 refundable. To me no it's not, but to a lot of people $100/month is a substantial amount of money

You are kinda jumping all over the place

You go from families having lower tax %, to public education, to EITC

Only on whatever you make over 195,450

good point, and actually the threshold was raised to 200K. so in essence I will break even as the limit's below this point are lower by 1 - 2%, still no real tax reductions.

Also, you're not going to get much sympathy outside of the OT

not looking for any sympathy, just pointing out that this bill doesn't reduce taxes for all as the OP suggests

When you factor in the loss of the TAF/Ticket deduction (and others), I will end up paying more
How much do you pay to TAF/Ticket deduction?

Letting us keep more of our own money isn't adding debt.

Frivolous government spending adds debt.

Use birth control if you don't want to pay for daycare

I was 26 at the time and both of us were working. After my second was born 5 years later, I was making enough that when my wife asked me if it would work out her staying home, we did it. 4 years later and we've never even thought about her working again until all the kids are in school. She does work part time a couple days a week, but that's because she wants to, not because she has to. I was just saying that daycare costs are high, and if anything Dependent care breaks should increase.

And it seems many people, not just here but everywhere, have no idea how local governments work in regards to property taxes. I've heard people without kids complain about their money going to schools. Well it also goes to Police, Fire, infrastructure, etc. I haven't had to use the Police or Fire Departments, but if/when that day comes, I'll be glad that property taxes have funded those departments and they will be there when I do need them. Same with schools. I paid high property taxes for almost 6 years before my kid started Kindergarten. She's now in 4th grade and we have excellent schools here. I look at tuition for private schools, and the property taxes I've paid living here 10 years looks mighty fine.
