maybe if healthcare would just list their prices like every other service industry people wouldn't feel the need to buy expensive insurance policies all the time?

I can tell you the “two open-heart surgery/monthlong Hospital stay” combo runs just about $1.2 million. But they also throw in two weeks of inpatient physical therapy as well for free.

Exactly. I have two with a third on the way. Kids are expensive. Daycare, even a moderately priced one like we used with our daughter, and the first year for our son, cost almost as much as college tuition annually. I'm glad they give a dependent care break so that my wife could keep working. Although it didn't cover 1/2 of it. Back then the cap was $5k annually. I think we paid over $800 a month, so over $10k for the year once you add in registration fees and supplies we had to buy for it.

Use birth control if you don't want to pay for daycare.

Only on whatever you make over 195,450.

Also, you're not going to get much sympathy outside of the OT

Ya, it is pretty hard to do if only 1.5% of the population manage to do it.

Keep in mind you're biased by where you live and who you socialize with. You may look around at all your friends and think it's easy to do because all of you do it, but your social circle is very, VERY minuscule when it comes to overall US population.

ETA: It's the same reason many people refuse to believe the fact that almost half this country does not pay income tax.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears that literally everyone is getting a tax break

A reduction in the rate of taxable income does not guarantee a tax reduction. The second aspect is what goes into the calculation of taxable income. The third is what factors operate to directly reduce the tax after application of the tables.

This suggestion by republican propagandists that a 2 or 4% reduction in table tax rate automatically means a tax cut is aimed at people who are ignorant of the mechanics of determining their income taxes. It is insulting to me.

Exactly. I meant to say I don't know if more or less itemized deductions will be allowed but you're right most wont even need to now.

None of my itemizing has changed at all. Still get state & local, real estate tax & home mortgage interest. I'm single so my standard deduction is only at $12k for 2018 or whenever this rolls out.

If you are single and have a new home, you'll still be itemizing.

Any tax break I get from the bill will end up offset by the hit to scholarships/grants for grad school for me because of stipends and such now being taxable income.

Wrong.

Final bill keeps the exemption for grad students

That's a bunch of words. Try backing them up with numbers. Until then, frick off.

So what is different in the calculation? What factors are different?

When you factor in the loss of the TAF/Ticket deduction (and others), I will end up paying more. Not a lot more, but more.

Why does a single person pay more taxes when they are already paying city taxes for couples that have kids that go to school.

What if the whole family goes on welfare?

This is flawed logic. Every single person in a society benefits from a more educated population. Want to keep more people off welfare? Let then get a quality education. Want to keep people off the streets? Let them get a quality education.

I totally understand the small government/libertarian mentality of "let me pay for what I use," but when it comes to education it doesn't make sense. Everyone pays for public education and they should, because everyone benefits from it.
