I never heard of this until we had our son.

My MIL wanted to be called Geaux-Ma, which was quickly vetoed and my son calls her Grandma like a normal child.

It's completely normal and has been for years. My parents (now in their 80s) and their friends all chose what they wanted to be called. Now back then, sometimes it was Mamaw, Papaw, Granny, etc. I'm 62 with a fairly new grandson (15 months). I don't know a single one of my friends that is called Grandma. It's just not happening.

The kid will call you something.

It will stick.

Yeah it's weird if you pick it. People who choose things like Captain or Chief are mega douches.

Exactly correct - I had a name picked out, but the Little Guy starting calling me something else. Enough said.

I’m Tiger. All their friends still call me Tiger. The oldest is 17. It wasn’t a long story. My flask was called TIGER NIP. I had to retire it in 2006. If you are a big Tiger Fan find an LSU name. It’ll stick.

So true, but love spoiling them. Plus I know when I’m old and broke my daughter will be taking care of me. She should have taught them not to be asking gramps to buy them whatever they wanted
