My good friend is at Horseshoe Beach on 6th street on a canal. They lost 25% of the older homes due to the Idalia surge. After Michael (his house was on a slab and he took 4 feet of water inside) he lifted it on columns to 15ft. Idalia surge got to within 5 feet of his floor. Blew out his ground lever cinder block walls where he keeps all his tools and rods and anything charter related. Got it all repaired just in time for Debbie. Debbie’s surge wasn’t as bad but he said the winds were worse. Blew away half of his roof and all the water ruined his floors. Talked to him last Monday to pay for a November customer trip in November and he was so happy that he had just finished the repairs from Debbie. And now he has this monster bearing down. I am not sure his house will survive this one. He will have all of his boats and heavy machinery inland 80 miles with his family but just hoping he has a house there when he drives in tomorrow afternoon.

Tallahassee might get some luck and be just west of the path. Cedar Key all the wya up to Alligator pt might be washed off the map. The Tampa General aqua wall looks like it may not get tested, again.

It is, for the moment.
She has deep convection on the west and SW side now, and the E side has been going for a while, but until it’s all black and white IR cloud tops around the eye, the high end strength potential won’t materialize.

Justin Michaels on The Weather Channel is nails on a chalkboard for me. He speaks so dramatically, like he’s an actor.

Is it a good or bad thing if it’s slowed down that much? I would think bad because more time in the gulf right?
I think it is bad, on balance. More time to prepare is good, but otherwise, the bad side of the storm (Ft Myers, Tampa) take a beating for longer, storm has more time to intensify and I believe, IIRC, the storm surge tends to be greater with a slower storm.

You'll be able to follow the center all the way in on radar now. Which makes it nice not having to use satellite which can play tricks on you.

It is speeding up though.

That's part of the concern. Y'all aren't getting rain technically from Helene. It is more from the front working it's way through and drawing a shite ton of moisture from the storm. It is getting this and then the rains from the storm that can cause the big problems.
