Congratulations, it is an amazing feeling. I immensely love my kids, but there is something about a Grandkid that is so much more special, a love on an entirely different plain. Maybe when your own kids are babies, you're so tied up with just trying to keep your tiny humans alive and growing right and your family intact and surviving as well that you don't have the time to contemplate certain things. Yes to an extent you do, but with a Grandkid you have that luxury. You're older and wiser to this cruel world.
I felt the difference when I realized the depravity I would inflict and the place I would go to, on anyone that would hurt the precious innocent human I had lying on my chest. The primal protection feelings is so strong. Not taking anything away from my kids but grandkids are something different . Both of my parents agree that it's a unique love for a Grandkiddo or Great Grandkiddo.

But seriously, congratulations. I hope to be able to do the same one day. My kids are still in grade school, so hopefully it's not for another 20+ years.

That's awesome, Slippy! Happy for you.

In the group of men I hunt with are two that are five years older. At night after dinner around the campfire drinking, when their first grandchild arrived was all they could talk about. The rest of us just listened and nodded politely, not sure why it was such a big deal.
Until we all had our first then understood. It’s the most glorious feeling in the world holding that infant with true unconditional love. I’ve since been blessed with seven more, all wonderful kids.
My job is to spoil them rotten every chance I get and let their parents and Nana handle the discipline side. In that I am very, very good perhaps to a fault.
I love them all more than words can express, and it only gets better as they grow up. It’s a great feeling.

I am in aw of the finger painting my kid brings home so I assume holding a baby they made is amazing

That's awesome Slippy. Try to get him interested in sports and riding to Home Depot with you before his teachers try to transition him.

Yeah grandkids are so much fun and they come at a point in your life when nothing is a big deal anymore and you have $$ to spend on them and spoil them.
What happened? Oh you drew with a marks-a-lot on the white couch? That's okay it was getting old anyway... Draw Pawpaw something else..
ETA- Our kids say we are not the people they grew up with, which is so true. My wife was a drill sergeant but now will walk in the rain if that's what the grandkids want to do..

Congratulations! Give God thanks for the joy coming into your life, treasure every moment, love him like there's no tomorrow and spoil the hell out of him.

Thanks y’all. This is my third, but the first boy. They live a long way from Louisiana so I don’t see them very often.
My son and his wife were early breeders. I still have a 24 year old living under my roof.

Holding my three was the best feeling I’ve ever had.
I’ve got #4 on the way.

Didn't see much of my boys growing up , busy working . Retired and had a beautiful red haired and blue eyed grand son . I cherish him . He is now four and an awesome little man . Enjoy ....

I've got a daughter and DIL pregnant for #'s 10 and 11. My first was 8 years ago and they have been a great joy. Congratulations to you!

congrats brother
.... new Paw Paw here. My granddaughter was born 7 months ago, and thankfully she only lives 5 minutes away. I agree, it's a feeling and emotion you can't describe. It's kind of like a drug. When she's here you can't get enough holding and time spent together. When she's gone for 3-4 days you truly miss her and can't wait till the next visit.
I wish and pray everyone can be grandparents.

This is a feeling that I cannot explain, but I hope all of you get to experience it one day. Pure awe.
Very different from meeting your own children.
My mom would be overjoyed if I had unprotected sex with a stripper if it meant a grandchild.

My mom told me this exact quote when I was in college.

I feel like this is true for most grandparents. My dad was a hard arse with me and my brothers our whole life but with my kid he's super chill. Just a quick example, we always had strict bedtimes under his roof. Me and my wife went out of town one weekend and my parents watched our kid for the weekend. I told them bedtime was at 8. While on our trip he texted us a video of them playing in the living room at 10, and I told him "shouldn't he be in bed" and he just responded "He wasn't tired, let the kid have some fun".
