Healthcare in BR.

About 5 years ago, we switch from the OLOL system to Oschner. Due to OLOL taking in all of the EKL patients, it was impossible to get appointments within weeks, out PCP was retiring and the care at the Lake hospital was pathetic.
Oschner was really a great experience, great care, referrals to specialists were available within days. I had a severe injury and was hospitalized for a week, it was a very different experience than the clown show at the Lake.
Now, I still am impressed with my PCP, but we're back to where we were with getting appointments, I have a mole that needs attention, I can't get an appointment until late March, I could die of melanoma by then. Back injury, I've been through weeks of pain with no care, I had an appointment 1/2/25, got a call yesterday, they pushed it back a week.
I've talked to people with the concierge medical plans, that's no better and more expensive.
Does anyone in BR have a better way? Getting old without good medical care is pretty grim.

Lafayette has some fantastic specialty care imo. Basically like Houston's mini me. Go there, it's only an hour west of BR.

And some retards think single payer or government healthcare would be better.

Have you looked at any of the providers with a more concierge care model? What kind of insurance do you have?

Baton Rouge General?
Better care than oschners and not the new earl aka lady of the lake.

You had a very unique Ochsner experience.

The current system being bad is not proof that a totally different system would be worse.

This is why you can't allow anyone to become a monopoly in the healthcare market. Competition keeps it customer focused.

As someone who worked for the “EKL” program, I can tell you that those patients continued to be seen by EKL providers 5 years ago

Who has the monopoly? Large insurers? Take away incentives for providers to see more patients and do more and they'll do less. Go 20 years without a raise and then cut re-imbursement for five straight years, they can't afford adequate support staff because they're spending to much on employees to file and fight with your insurance, do your PA's for your meds, pre-cert your scans, schedule appts you could do yourself, and answer bullshite phone calls.
There is plenty of competition overall, but no incentive to go above and beyond. Not to mention bullshite EMR's that take inordinate amounts of the provider's time to complete charting.
The whole system is fricked, but waiting until March for a potential melanoma is ridiculous. You can self refer to a derm.
Can't explain such a wait unless they just don't like you. Got shitty insurance? Unpleasant person that complains a lot? Bad account? Sometimes they're putting you off so you'll go elsewhere.

Go spend some time in the VA system and get back to me. You think private healthcare is inefficient and expensive, wait till you see the shitshow of government run healthcare.
To be fair, we don’t have private healthcare now. We have government mandated corporate healthcare thanks to Obamacare

This. Unless you're in healthcare, it's hard to explain just how screwed up it is. Most of us doctors did warn people about what Obamacare would ultimately lead to. Here we are and it's only going to get worse.

Agreed. After a pretty bad MC accident this past January, severe head injury, Oschner Lafayette General saved my life. Plus Acadian Ambulance flying me on their helicopter, getting me to hospital within 40min of the “golden hour”. Eternally grateful…

But we do have proof. The VA and the fact the government is the single largest provider in the country. So you believe going with them as the only provider would or could be better?
I’ll have what you are smoking. Come on it’s Christmas, give a little to your fellow dropper.

Avoid primary care at any hospital system in this stat at all costs.

The doctors at OLOL are miles better than Ochsner, hence why it takes longer to see them.
