Nothing is keeping you from going to one of the dozens of private dermatology clinics in the area that isn’t Ochsner or OLOL. For your back, you can see a physical therapist without a referral. Or you can continue to bitch and complain

If you want a good Ochsner Doc, you have to go to Jefferson
The ones in BR are awful. The specialists come up like once or twice a week.
I can’t believe you think Ochsner-BR is better than OLOL.
Ochsner takes Medicaid, if it’s just poor people you don’t like.

Why are you going to a PCP for a mole? Make an appt with a dermatologist and get it taken care of. Get a full skin assessment while you’re at it.

It’s amazing how many people think they need referrals to see specialists.

Now, I still am impressed with my PCP, but we're back to where we were with getting appointments, I have a mole that needs attention, I can't get an appointment until late March, I could die of melanoma by then. Back injury, I've been through weeks of pain with no care, I had an appointment 1/2/25, got a call yesterday, they pushed it back a week.
I started going to Ochsner probably 15-20 yrs ago and some things they do well and others are absolutely terrible. My PCP was in the Jeffeson Highway area and like you said getting appointments was horrible and the time with the doctor was nil.
The thing that became obvious was that Ochsner exists to feed other Ochner businesses and doctors. I have yet for one of their specialist ever solve anything. I had my gall bladder out by an Ochsner surgeon and he did well but I am talking about diagnostic specialties. All they do is keep referring you around to another Ochsner employee and half the time I get an NP or PA that is a waste of time for the level of care and info I am seeking.
My Ochsner PCP is a new fresh out of school young lady that does not have a big patient client list built up and we are out in the BTR burbs so I can generally get in to see her in a days time because she has lots of open appointments and she always spends a lot of time discussing my issues and options with me. She has been very good and helpful.
I was having issues with my blood pressure meds and Ochsner referred me to a young Cardiologist and I honestly think he would have killed me. He was terrible and I found an experienced Cardiologist through a friend referral and it has worked out great.

I’d go straight to BROC if I had back injury.
Screw going through a primary care dr who would only refer you elsewhere.

Good PCP can do that and biopsy it appropriately. Few and far between though, especially in younger ones.

What’s your insurance? There’s a reason you’re being delayed.
And if you say Medicaid I will laugh

This is why you can't allow anyone to become a monopoly in the healthcare market. Competition keeps it customer focused.
Unfortunately this is not true. Competition results in hospitals moving to rich areas and abandoning poor areas. Lake, Ochsner, and Baton Rouge General would love for you to build a north BR hospital and monopolize that market. You take the Medicaid crowd and they’ll take the Commercial insurance crowd. You could have a medically superior hospital with better patient care, but you would still go broke.

Who has the monopoly? Large insurers? Take away incentives for providers to see more patients and do more and they'll do less. Go 20 years without a raise and then cut re-imbursement for five straight years, they can't afford adequate support staff because they're spending to much on employees to file and fight with your insurance, do your PA's for your meds, pre-cert your scans, schedule appts you could do yourself, and answer bullshite phone calls.
There is plenty of competition overall, but no incentive to go above and beyond. Not to mention bullshite EMR's that take inordinate amounts of the provider's time to complete charting.
The whole system is fricked, but waiting until March for a potential melanoma is ridiculous. You can self refer to a derm.
Can't explain such a wait unless they just don't like you. Got shitty insurance? Unpleasant person that complains a lot? Bad account? Sometimes they're putting you off so you'll go elsewhere.
I've never known healthcare to not be screwed up in America. Today, the corporate business men and insurance companies tell the doctors how to treat patients, instead of doctors making the decisions. Douchebags with a degree in business administration are running healthcare facilities, and doctors are their subordinates. Many people in the health care industry are so disgusted by the system that they are cheering Luigi Mangione, the man that murdered United Health Care CEO Brian Thompson, and have turned him into a hero. The enemy here is not socialism as republicans would like you to believe. The enemy is capitalism, and what it turns into.
Although as screwed up as it is, I've spent most of my life uninsured, and thanks to Obama Care, I have insurance for the first time. So, there is a small amount of light at the end of the tunnel for me.

There are a few people that have/will benefit from it. However, it has made it faaaaaar more expensive for everyone in the process. It will kill healthcare in our country. The amount of money to cover the people that needed it could have been done much, much cheaper and not escalate the price of everything for everybody. The big winners have been big insurance. They helped write it.

I do not know if this is an option, but my mom had to see a doctor and couldn't get in anywhere in baton rouge no earlier than 5 or 6 months. She ended up getting an appointment in Covington the next week.
Like I said, I don't know if that is info helpful to you, but you might have to look elsewhere.

The Lake clientele was a sight to behold. The care wasn’t bad, though. Ochsner O’Neil is horrible. On more than one occasion and spanning years. I’d never recommend anyone step foot in there. Look into BRGH.

A lot of doctors are independent contractors and float between health systems. They'll go do surgeries at BR General, OLOL and Oschner in the same week.
That might not be the case for primary care, but if you are having an appendix removed, you might get the same doctor at all 3 places.
