Why is the premium for self + family the same for me with one child as it is for another couple with up to 5 kids? Why aren't premiums based on the number of kids?

Also, if my child is the only one of us who needs vision insurance (wife and I have no vision problems), why do I have to pay for self + family for vision premiums?

You're welcome to get an individual plan.

Why are premiums for 24 year olds the same for 54 year olds? Because that's how group policies work.

insurance should be used for what insurance is meant for..... emergencies. Doc checkups and drugs were extremely cheap. When insurance companies and pharma got in bed together the prices of these good and services sky rocketed if you pay cash. and the insurance companies and pharma have an "agreed" cost that is WAY lower than if you were to pay outright because it is all inflated.

the Healthcare insurance model was better in the 70's and 80's

It all depends. Some consider self, spouse, and 1 child for a family plan. Others its broken down individually then with incremental increases each child.

It may be cheaper if your wife has her insurance with the kids and you on your insurance for yourself.

Insurance is the most basic service you can imagine. They assess your risk (cost to them), tack on their profit, then establish your premium. It's no different in practice than loan underwriting.

The way it's used, on the other hand, is how it's abused.

Repealing EMTALA would have a massive positive impact on hospital costs alone.

Actually I think it’s up to 10 kids.

Call Obama - the only thing he did while in office was screw up the working man's health insurance.

I've read it runs around 6% of costs for a hospital.

I believe it's Trump care now. He made changes to it and refused to fix it with a repeal and replace.

My granddad died in 1980 because the closest place that did bypasses was Houston and he was too sick to be moved that far. Now they're commonplace in any decent sized city and a lot of smaller ones.
